The original placement of the fuse panel was behind the side cover. it was problematic to install the side cover. Further, there is no room for the horn relay. So, I moved the fuse panel to the rear fender. This placement is contingent on the saddle not interfering with the fuse panel. The saddle is out for re-covering. Final placement is on hold. Here is the preliminary placement without using the "flag" faston connectors.

The horn relay is on the left. The flasher relay is on the right.

With the right side cover in place. It fits without any interference. .

The wire dress has extra for now. Once everything checks out, I will install the flag fastons and minimize the excess wiring.

I am using the AUX circuit for the horns with a 10A fuse. No problems with the horns. They are too loud to use for any extended tests in the garage. The horns upset domestic tranquility. Extended testing will have to wait until I can ride it.

I mounted the fuse block under the side cover on my XJ, but like you say it is tight. It does require flexing the block and plate a bit to get the cover on. I haven't looked into modifying it to make it fit better, but sounds like a spring project.

One overarching concern I have with the fuse panel behind the right side cover is water getting in.

If the fuse panel is under the saddle, water should have a more difficult time getting to the fuse panel. The major concern is the faston connectors.

No joy with the fuse panel under the saddle. I replaced the battery with a new smaller battery and moved the fuse panel to the left side under the left cover next to the battery.

I will fabricate something to fill the battery box space that I can mount the fuse panel to.

I took it out for a ride around the neighborhood with the new fuse panel. Starts right up and rides well.

I moved the fuse panel to the left side. I made a bracket to hold the panel in place and to prevent the battery from moving. I will replace the wood with something non-flamable.

The horn relay works great. The horns are ridiculously loud. You do not want to be standing in front of the bike when they are honking.
