  • Fuse panel question

Yesterday I removed the fuse panel and installed the 6-pole panel.

When I removed fuses from the stock fuse holders, one of the fuse holders fell apart just from the force of removing the glass fuse. Wow. This was a disaster waiting to happen. Glad that I got rid of the old fuse panel before a long trip.

I have a question. There is an accessory circuit terminating in a screw panel that appears to have never have been used. The wiring schematic does not appear to have this circuit shown.

Where is this accessory circuit picked from?

I believe it comes straight from the battery, as it's always live? In TC's fuse holder thread, there is a good write-up on how to use it with the new setup.

Ian is correct as the auxiliary circuit is powered straight from the battery.

If your interested in keeping that circuit available here's what I did that may interest you:

I pretty much did the same but instead of grafting a spade fuse holder to the original mount I completely deleted the fuse there and ran some heavy wires up to the TC fuse Panel.

Now, all the fuses are in one place.

I retained the original mount there and the 2 +_- tap in screws. I have my horn relay tapped in there.

Thanks for the pictures and for the ideas. It helps to see how others have made the installation work. It is a bit more of a challenge for me as my XJ1100 has much less room inside the side cover than an XS1100 has. The flasher relay is also inside this side cover.

In addition, I am trying to stash the horn relay and a relay socket. I am tinkering with possibly mounting the fuse block under the seat and mounting the horn relay and its socket where the glass fuse box used to be.

I am at the moment using the aux circuit wiring to power the horns. From left to right I have:

                Main (30) =>Horns=>(10) => Tail (10) => Head (10) => Signal (20) => Ignition (10)

You're welcome Gordon, and thank you for the kind words. Even though I have a 6 fuse panel I didn't want to lose the option.

Greg, I have my Fiamms relay powered the same as yours, although the pics are pre-Fiamm, so I still have the extra fuse in the panel for GPS or cell phone charger.

Hi Brian, I didn't realize the XJ11 was cramped for space in the fuse panel area 'cause I don't have one yet

My horn relay has a bracket that fit nicely into the rubber retainer that holds the tip-over switch under the fuel tank but as said not too sure if the XJ is the same as a Standard there.

Hmmm........I just power my phone and stuff off the power plug in my fairing. It plugs directly into the headlight harness. It has it's own inline fuse, albeit a glass tube, inside the fairing. I believe it is powered up through the main because it's constant power even when the ignition switch is off.

                        Power Point

A little CRS starting to creep in but yep your right Greg, my Pacifico has a lighter that is fused (bottle type) inline just inside the left fairing door and yes hot all the time.

Just so happens I have a three way splitter that'll plug right in so GPS & Cell charger power taken care of.

Think I'll use the extra fuse for crash bar mounted led cornering lights being that the headlight is fixed in the fairing.

Be careful on all those devices Schming. Sounds like you're getting close to your stator's max output. I have LED everything, and my driving lights and cell phone charger cannot be on at the same time, and I even have an LED headlight!

Since most accessories use USB plugs for charging now I have this setup. It tucks away in the pocket of the soft cover on the left side of my Windjammer V. I can plug in 4 USB cords.

I am concerned about that Ian, especially with all the stock bulbs in the fairing, trunk, headlight, tail light, instrument cluster and turns.
When I first got the bike in '92 I installed a 55 watt Blazer just below the headlight it had me push starting the beast through an Eat 'n Park parking lot, after a late night breakfast, unsuccessfully had to call a cab.

Greg that looks like a winner I'll have to sort that out soon. I do have to put some more time into TAT (technology advancement training)
