Stock Head Pipes - No Mufflers & Bad Gaskets

Personally, I'd take an OEM pipe (or anything quiet) over a noisy pipe of any make or variety. I HATE the loud attention-getting obnoxious noisy bikes and hot rods. All of my vehicles (both 2 & 4 wheel) are as quiet as I can get 'em.
FYI.... My VERY QUIET '79 Trans Am 455 will smoke anything of comparable vintage, all they will see is my tail lamps as I pull away! That's what I like!
This bike will EVENTUALLY be as QUIET as STOCK!
VERY Respectfully,

Mayberry gets a new suit! Blue/Gray Metallic
XS Folks,
Well I was determined to get rid of the PURPLE. Went to the PPG store today and picked up a couple colors. I think Nancy will prefer this one.... we'll see when she gets home.
I have a preference for BLUE hues but I'm still a bit un-decided on this one. I already have two bikes and a car painted in Martinique Blue (a '78 GM Color) and wanted to be a little different. This may become a two-tone with either the darker blue Martinique or a silver I have in-stock. Depends on if the color really grows on me or not.... If Nancy likes it, it will probably be a done deal.
Regardless, the parts will need another coat. It was probably a little too cool for painting today and the metallic is not as uniform as I would prefer. Lack of sufficient flash keeps the metal floating a little too long. ANYTHING is better than PURPLE.
Thoughts on this color?

I like it darker, but it's what you and Nancy like that matters.
What kind of paint did you use (two part urethane)? - I am amazed how nicely it lays out with a shiny finish. Did you wet sand it or did it spray on like that?-Mike

I also normally like a darker blue. And it may get a little darker...
Everything in the sample book that was darker blue than my favorite looked too dark toward the black side and I wanted it to look different than the: XJ550, CT70, or T/A (all Martinique) but not too dark. I really am also not at all a fan of REDS or hues of RED. I looked toward Gold but was concerned about the emblems. Brown isn't catchy enough for me and the ASTRO BRIGHT COLORS seem to fit the "Crotch Rockets" more than an older classic. (just my personal opinions....)
This paint is PPG Shopline (JAU) single-stage. The color is called JETSTREAM BLUE METALLIC.
I've been using this product group for several years and am comfortable with it so I continue to go back to it. It's very simple to mix and pretty easy to clean-up too. In addition, it's very reasonable on price. Today, I purchased three(3) pints of three(3) different colors, 1 quart of reducer, 1 pint of top coat hardener, 1 quart of high build surfacer-primer, 1 pint basecoat hardener, 1/2 dozen mixing cups, etc. walked out the door for less than $120.
I have done a couple base/clear-coat jobs most notably by good friends '77 Corvette that turned out AMAZING but I really haven't too much experience with it. Base/Clear is also quite a bit more expensive since the hardeners and such are different and you need two sets of everything.

I have a preference for dark red like Merlot. I'm usually not all that crazy about blues unless we're talking music. That being said, I think it's nice and bright and contrasts very well with the rest of the bike. I have to say I like it. I would not two-tone this bike. I think it will look too busy. The tank and side covers are really small bits of a big bike. What you have done looks great and seeing another like it is extremely unlikely.

I was home today and when the bride got home I was in the drive with Mayberry and the Duck.... First thing out of her mouth: "Wow I love that color". Seems Jetstream Blue Metallic is here to stay! I have plenty of this paint for saddle bags and the Vetter that should eventually adorn this ride.
With the Yamaha badge (crappy as it is) and the gas cap on, it now looks a little more favorable to me than it did alone.
Just got a BIG box from Andreas I need to open... FEELS LIKE XMAS!

Hi, Kurt ...
IMO, XS11 Standards can wear most any color and look great, but Specials lend themselves very well to darker shades.
For a Special to look its best wearing a lighter color, I think it should get the "Euro" engine treatment (black with polished highlights).
I must say, though ... that Jetstream Blue Metallic is a nice color, you've done a really nice job applying it, and it looks good on the bike ...
It would look absolutely amazing with the "Euro" engine treatment!!
I think it's great that you're willing to experiment with different colors, instead of trying to match a Yamaha factory color.
Anyway, that's myMarco

Ignition Switches.....NOT all the same
XS Folks,
Been busy all day with the Mayberry Duck. Ran all the way to North Georgia to buy some parts from another XS11.com member and returned to install all the new goodies from him and our friend in the great white north.....
The ignition switch on Mayberry was all screwed up so I got a replacement. After spending a bunch of time cleaning and making the replacement work properly, I installed it in the bike. HAPPY? HAPPY? WRONG!
Turns out I must have gotten an ignition switch from an earlier model? Maybe one without the park lamp/lock feature? Whatever, the connectors don't fit so I had to take it all apart and rob pieces from the one with the bad key/tumbler and so forth.... Wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't put it all together... Live & Learn!
If you need a new ignition switch....MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE!
