Hi Kurt,
I also like your new colour Is the exhaust on Mayberry Duck ceramic coated ?
Phil
Thanks,color is growing on me.
What is installed on this bike does not meet the description of "exhaust", it's old OEM head pipes (no mufflers) with several rust-through spots.
It's my intention to try to find some OEM head pipes and put another set of Harley Muffs on them for the time being which will allow me to ride around a LITTLE.
I am going to try to get together with my muffler shop friend and try to start fabrication of not less than THREE sets of SS exhausts (Duck, Mayberry, Dead Duck).

Hi Kurt,
If you can build a SS exhaust for less than two arms, a leg and your first born there are others who would be interested which may make sense to build a jig. If you design it to be able to mount to both Special and Standards
you would corner the market.

XS Folks,
I've made a bunch of progress with Mayberry the last few days. A special thanks to "Eastcoaster" and Bill Kapper (?Sp?). Eastcoaster provided me with a nice seat at a very reasonable price and Bill sold me a whole bunch of items from his XS11 hoard!
I'm making faster progress with Mayberry than I did The Duck but there is still much to do. The general plan is to get a good handle on all the necessary parts, find and buy what I can, get as much on as I can, get it running "decent", strip it to the bones, have the frame powder-coated, and put it all back together again....
This is how Mayberry looks today after a couple dozen new parts and hours of cleaning and repairing.....
Still a TON of work to accomplish. The color is starting to grow on me! We'll see when the saddle bags arrive from Evil-Bay and get the new color too!
Plans for the Dead Duck.....
While at Bill's I got to take a good look at his XS11 hot rod. As a father & son project my son Karl & I will steal a couple ideas from Bill (and others) and the "Dead Duck" will be a driver again!
Here's Bill's Hot Rod:
Incredible attention to detail and everything perfectly organized and well thought out!
Bill needs a seat for his standard in the background. It's one of those with the tail on the back. Got one????
Sorry I didn't get a pic with the tank on it. Bill was working on a relay and has the tank on the bench. The tank is really nice with a big Yamaha logo.
Unfortunately, with XMas approaching SWMBO turned off the faucet after I purchased the saddle bags. But, I've got a ton of work to do without needing to spend a dime so I'll make it till beyond XMAS....
XS Folks,
As usual, I'm working XS11 projects (probably all weekend due to rain in ATL).
Decided I'd figure out why the front end feels like it's 'bout to fall off......
This is what a TOTALLY neglected bearing looks like.... Hope you don't let your XS11 get to this level of maintenance......
Once off the ground, I found about 1/2" of side-to-side play in the front wheel. DUH!
This is what it looks like when "Bubba" decides to paint his front calipers....
One darn bolt to pull and he could have avoided making this mess...Now I get to clean it up!
Bubba's done a similar level of quality work in other areas of the bike...
Fortunately, I have plenty of new front & rear wheel bearings. Going to pull the whole tree and inspect those bearings too.....
UGH! This XS11 stuff is beginning to lose it's FUN FACTOR!
Actually, the bike came with a damaged Kerker that had been pushed up into contact with the oil pan, it's trashed and it's not on the bike in that video. I pulled the head pipes off my other XS (DEAD Duck) and installed them to get 'er started there is no muffler and nothing beyond the end of the stock (and crappy rusty) OEM Yamaha head pipes. In addition, the exhaust port gaskets are totally shot as the new ones have not yet arrived from Partzilla. Two of the exhaust ports were bypassing very badly due to the bad gaskets.
Personally, I'd take an OEM pipe (or anything quiet) over a noisy pipe of any make or variety. I HATE the loud attention-getting obnoxious noisy bikes and hot rods. All of my vehicles (both 2 & 4 wheel) are as quiet as I can get 'em.
FYI.... My VERY QUIET '79 Trans Am 455 will smoke anything of comparable vintage, all they will see is my tail lamps as I pull away! That's what I like!

[QUOTE=kboehringer;476720]XS Folks,

Bike looking good.!Nice paint..Good luck with exhaust.!!!
XS Folks,
My plan to turn Mayberry into a longer distance capable bike took a big step forward today..... The standard bags I purchased showed up!
They are in really nice shape with just a few mild scratches. There is a tiny bit of surface rust on the structure that should come off with chrome polish. If a little remains I can camouflage the tiny spots with a little silver paint.
I have answered the question of if Standard Bags fit a Special. The answer is... MOSTLY. The forward lower bracket does NOT match up to the peg mount.
This photo makes it appear to be much closer than it is. It's actually quite far off the mark. I will cut this bracket off and SS weld a straight piece of SS flat stock in it's place with the proper orientation to catch the passenger peg mount. Otherwise, everything else matches up pretty well. I'm going to do something creative with the turn signals but have not yet figured that out.
I was told these Yamaha (I assume) bags are pretty easy to find but the support brackets etc. are somewhat difficult to find and expensive?
I got the whole set-up for $150 and THINK (?) I got a good deal?
The bags should be repainted before the weekend is over....
Looking good Kurt...I dont think those are Yamaha OEM bags...mine are...but someone will be along shortly to correct me if i am wrong...
my windscreen is pretty good but it still pales in comparison to the protection a full vetter fairing would offer...
Thanks for the correction Phil...the pans on Swampthing are the type with one latch on the top pf the pannier and the lids are on hinges...the pans on Kurt's bike have 2 latches and it appears the entire lid has to be removed in order to open them fully
