Just a thought from post by dbeardslee. Try taking a heat gun or hair dryer and warming up the coils to about 120F. Measure before you start, and if you can measure as they are getting warm. If you see things change, dump the coils. I would measure between the two plug caps first, and then the primary, or 1.5Ohm side.
I've just about given up on the old coils I have. Most have less than 40K on them, but they are ALL over 30+ years old...
