You may have found something, but then maybe not? Here's a chance to use that fancy new dial gauge you just got! Put it on the cam lobe on the low side and zero the gauge, and then rotate the engine/cam and see how much lift you have on the lobe and compare it to the manual specs. I would measure right down the middle of the lobe avoiding the chips on the edges.
You also said you put new cent. adv. parts on. Did you take a timing light and check to make sure that it's advancing properly and the full 35 degrees amount at 5200 rpm?
