    Hey Greg,

You may have found something, but then maybe not? Here's a chance to use that fancy new dial gauge you just got! Put it on the cam lobe on the low side and zero the gauge, and then rotate the engine/cam and see how much lift you have on the lobe and compare it to the manual specs. I would measure right down the middle of the lobe avoiding the chips on the edges.

You also said you put new cent. adv. parts on. Did you take a timing light and check to make sure that it's advancing properly and the full 35 degrees amount at 5200 rpm?

I'm not even going to mess with these cams, I pulled a set off of an E engine I have in the garage that look real good and I'll swap them out. Also, the E centrifugal advance, timing plate, and pod.

OH! And yes, I did check full advance without and with the vacuum pod in play and both ways it was dead nuts on.

Irregardless if that's causing the issue those cams are headed south and need changing. I've got it apart now.

Replacement cams installed, valves adjusted (only needed to change 2 intake shims ), working on getting everything back together. Taking a break and having a beer.

Ok, I'm adding replacing cams, adjusting valves, switching to 2H7-10 advance unit, resetting timing, and resync and adjust carbs to the list of stuff that made no difference at all getting rid of the sputtering.

In lower gears it'll push on through it and catch and go like crazy but in 4th or 5th it just kinda stalls and flattens out at WOT.

I'm tempted to order the Dyna coils but I hate to spend the money if that's not the issue. I've done run out of ideas though.

            Am I talking to myself????

Is it strictly throttle related? Is it -as soon as WOT it bogs/noses over and then gets thru it and runs or WOT runs to a certain rpm than bogs, gets thru it and rums?

It seems like whenever the engine is under the greatest loads. Even under part throttle going slowly in lower gears it bogs but the lower gears it can push through and take off, it the upper gears it can't get to a high enough RPM to push through it because it's working too hard.

I can get to 90 pretty easy if I don't use full throttle but as soon as I do it just flattens out.

I'd forget about the Dyna coils and THEIR price. Locally, I'd opt for a set of Honda vfr coils...........way cheaper($30-$40)..........besides they work WAY awesomely!. Just have your meter WITh you to check ohms across the two input poles on each coil. Not all the vfr coils ae 3ohm coils. They ARE plug'n'play as far as mounting, plus you get to make up your own plug wire sets........worked for me awesomely on the Vwnturer.......and still do. Extremely rare that Honda coils throw craps on you also. Just my advice Greg, since I'm using them on my Venturer, Even extremely rich running, they don't miss a lick firing, and have no idea bike is way..way rich unless I get a whif of the exhaust while riding hiway speeds down the road or pulling plugs for a look see. In other words, eliminate the coils your now using on the bike!

I've tried 2 different sets. One set of 3ohm coils from an 81 without the ballast resistor and the set of 1.5ohm w/ballast resistor coils I've got on there now. They are the originals.

                      Same, same.

I have one more set here on JW's SG I could try I suppose. I have another set but they are in KC on Russ' bench in his garage. Been trying to contact him but he's ignoring me I guess.

Yeah, I thought about that Brant but I work 10 hours a day 5 days a week and I never get an opportunity to run all the way to the north side of town and pilfer the salvage pile. Maybe I can get Vlad to get me some.

Just changed that before the trip to Michigan when my charging system cooked.

Charging system is working better now than it ever has. 13.75v at
                              about 3500.
