I used rustolium gloss black cut 50/50 mineral spirits and paint.
Goes on very thin doesn't run if you are careful, dries quick, can be buffed to high gloss, I did not buff this area, takes extra coats to get desired finish like 5-7 coats. If chipped mask off reapply no clear coat needed. Hope I did not open up a can of worms on paint I non't want to go there. I have used this on a Husqvarna dirt bike rims as well holds up well............. posting be scared.
What paint did you use for the rear final drive? Do you find that it holds up OK to chipping? Want to paint mine black as well but don't want to pay the premium for powder coating. I've found the VHT header paint has worked OK so far.
I needed some color because i'm ready to paint the motor and needed a good visual on lines through out the bike. Looks like black on cylinder and head. Remove paint on edge of head fins only. Valve cover?????? The cases untouched may only clean them up a little may leave slightly dirty. Clutch cover, combo black base, cover untouched. Shifter cover combo black base, face polished and raised fins black or blood red. Valve cover black base face polished and black or blood red raised fins...............yea right!
OK lets hide the battery and wires. Plan goes like this:
1. use plastic inner fender stock as is.
2. lower battery tray to clear seat.
3. re-purpose chrome rear fender.
4. make some side covers.
5. make front cover ( engine side).
