Yes to lower seat for the Bobber effect. I did the fiberglass over waxed foil trick to make a seat pan that fits over the new seat section. Then took the pan to an upholstery shop to build me a seat. I have back issues so I wanted a thick seat for comfort it maybe a little thick will see. I will take a pic when I get home for you.

What's the purpose of what you did here (circled in red). That so you can get seat low as possible? If yes, what seat you using, where you get it from? Thanks!

try here: http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/connectors.html for new connectors and crimpers if you don't have the correct type. This is what I have used with no problems, and Tony, aka geezer, is also a member here. I keep a selection at home, as I'm working on a '79 standard now, and will be working on a '78 after this one is done.
Just an aside, I like the bike, but you should look into the "loop" a lot of bobber's and cafe bikes use. Helps clean up the looks of the rear frame.

Cleaning connections is the cure. Any chance of a wire fire. Do I need to replace the burnt connection?

The burnt wire and connector block is the feeds from the generator to the Rectifier/regulator, the contacts corrode and over heat causing the burning, a common sign of this happening is your tacho needle flickering as it uses one of the wires for its signal.
