You can tighten them with a 1/4" drive rarchet, you can't really overtighten them that way.

Yea I got one from a friend set it at 90 and think it slightly bent one of the parts back till it clicked, so I took it off bent it back and set them all just a tad of a grunt with a 1/4 inch drive.

BTW......whatever oil you use be sure the API Service label looks like this, blank at the bottom.

Thats what I did seems to work good, might have to do a little adjustment seems I need a tad more clutch as the gears are to close to the full squeeze on the handle, I put a new cable on also. This means I need to lossen the 12mm nut and clockwize the screw a bit correct

Hey Jeff,

How much slack do you have in the lever...in other words, how far will the lever travel BEFORE you feel resistance to the lever/cable? If there's more than a 1/4 inch of gap at the end of the lever near the hinge, then you may first want to try taking up some of the cable slack with the cable adjuster at the handle first. IF you set the engine screw too tight, then it can cause slippage because the plates won't fully engage...will be held slightly apart.

If you don't have much slack in the cable, then it does sound like you might need to do the adjustment at the engine with a little more CW rotation of the center screw.

I had a tad of slack at the handle, I loosened it up a tad more and put about a quarter turn on the center screw, seems to be better. Just a tad more I think will be perfect. but.....no 5 gear slippage.....yea
