Thanks Top Cat
I had a tad of slack at the handle, I loosened it up a tad more and put about a quarter turn on the center screw, seems to be better. Just a tad more I think will be perfect. but.....no 5 gear slippage.....yea
clutch....

Hey Jeff,
How much slack do you have in the lever...in other words, how far will the lever travel BEFORE you feel resistance to the lever/cable? If there's more than a 1/4 inch of gap at the end of the lever near the hinge, then you may first want to try taking up some of the cable slack with the cable adjuster at the handle first. IF you set the engine screw too tight, then it can cause slippage because the plates won't fully engage...will be held slightly apart.
If you don't have much slack in the cable, then it does sound like you might need to do the adjustment at the engine with a little more CW rotation of the center screw.

Perfect
Thats what I did seems to work good, might have to do a little adjustment seems I need a tad more clutch as the gears are to close to the full squeeze on the handle, I put a new cable on also. This means I need to lossen the 12mm nut and clockwize the screw a bit correctGet rid of the 10-30 synthetic and get a jug of Super Tech 20-50 plain old dyno, order some new BARNETTS, get it adjusted properly and you'll have a new bike.
Guaranteed.
BTW......whatever oil you use be sure the API Service label looks like this, blank at the bottom.

You can tighten them with a 1/4" drive rarchet, you can't really overtighten them that way.Leave a comment:

Hi Jeff,
7.5 x 12 = 90 INCH /Pounds
you might find an inch/lb wrench available.
Cheap enough at Harbor Freight.

Personally I could guess pretty close because I'm in that sort of business but I wouldn't advise you to do that.
Do you have a neighbor, a friend, or a parts house where you could borrow one.
I know O'Reilly's loans tools.Leave a comment:

7.5 ft lbs
Before you do that. Did you check to see if the bolts were stretched up near the head. It will be pretty obvious if they are. If they are they could break when you tighten them.
Sorry, should have mentioned it before.Leave a comment:

Well springs came in today, so I pulled the cover, undid the 5 bolts holding the springs in, took the springs out and put the new ones on, now I have started the bolts back in all are snug, I went around and around till they all are snug How tight do I put the bolts in that hold the thing that pushes the springs?Leave a comment:

That is right. The oil pump sprocket (I think) is the gear that can easily get messed-up if things don't mesh. It is thin and is easily bent.Leave a comment:

Just pay attention on re-assembly. It's hard to tell your first couple times doing it if the clutch basket is fully seated. You'll twist, wiggle, shake, pull up and down, left and right, swear something isn't right, then all the sudden it clunks home.Leave a comment:

well....
I went ahead and dumped my oil, took the foot peb off and brake lever. I did look and dont think the mufflers will have to come off. My chiltons book said take it off. The gasket was only like 5 bucks on ebay no biggie. Cable and gasket came in todays mail, so hopefully get a little start on the project, miss being on 2 wheels. Been having to drive my car UGH.....Drive the bike full time to work every day rain or shineLeave a comment:
