Look at your handle bar switch on the right side. You will need to pull the seat and tank off the bike, then you can see the connector from that switch near the coils up front on the right side of the frame.

Look at the connector and see if it has three or four wires. Three wires will be two red/white and one blue wire. The four wire connector has those three and a black wire in it. If it has the black wire, that should be your ground in place of the bars.

You bet it is. Gonna have to get a good ground at that right switch housing somehow.

Run a 16 gauge black wire, with a screw terminal, from a screw on the switch housings, left & right, to ground under the tank at the reg/rec.

Thanks guys. I haven't had a chance to work on the beast for a couple days, but I got it started with a screwdriver at the solenoid this afternoon. I'll work on running a grounding wire, unless I decide to change the handlebars. Again.

i was hoping a blown fuse was my problem as well, but none of the fuse blades look busted, so i am scratching my head wondering what else could it be.

battery is charged, lights are working, i opened the starter mechanism and wires were clean and attached solidly, i cant think of any reason why the starter button all of a sudden no longer works. no pulse. dead.

jumping it is the only way to start it and it rides fine.

Well, if you used that starter button while jumping the bike, there isn’t anything wrong with it. A stronger battery may overcome a bad connection somewhere(?).

Starter button works by grounding a wire. I would take apart the right control and check for bad/broken connections inside.

-i charged the battery on the trickle charger all night. it reads 13.1 with multimeter.
-i did open the right controller, looked like wires were fine
-i sprayed electrical cleaner in it, just because... no improvement

                    my fuse box blade configuration

which blade would be responsible for starter button?

Clymer says from left to right it should be 30 main, 10headlight, 20turn, 10ignition.

seems all is clean and firmly connected.

i think i need to follow that blue/white wire to find my problem

How did you make those crimps on the fusebox flag terminals? The flag terminals on the smaller gauge wires are too big. They should be red. If you can pull on any of those wires, and they come out, that's at least contributing to your problem.

Corrosion in the switchgear is no good.

Try taking the button assembly apart. clean up all the contacts and re-assemble. Just work on the starter button for now, but you may need to do all the contacts as age IS a factor.(I can't be old yet!)
Also, looking at the photo the ground wire could use cleaning as well. it's the screw that holds the starter button assembly in.

i want to take the button thing apart but i dont know how it comes out. when i unscrew everything it doesn’t dislodge, do i pull it out? the ground wire (blue /white) goes into the button housing, the screw on top is soldered tight, should i rip it out???

it comes out from the inside of the case. when you take the screw out, there's some spring pressure that hold it in places. A little wiggle and you should be good.
