There is also a vac port on the body of the #2 carb. This one is for the vacuum advance units hose. This is a metered vac port and should be the only place you plug the advance into.Nathan

On both of my standards, I set them up this way:
#1 - capped
#2 - to carb #1
#3 - to carb #4
#4 - capped
Another hint - run your fuel lines as follows:
- from left petcock to the lower "T" fitting between carb #3 and carb #4
- from right petcock to the lower "T" fitting between carb #1 and carb #2
Run both of these with a bit of extra length to they will still be connected when you raise and insert a three or four inch block under the rear end of the tank, for when you are syncing the carbs.Ken Talbot

Don't forget, it's a good idea to use inline fuel filters in between the tank and carbs.1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )

Yes, if you have a standard then 2 vac lines go to the petcocks. Pull that bb out and hook it up to that nipple on the #2 carb body.
We really do need to know what year and model bike you have. A lot of things changed through the years and advice needs to be based on the year and the model you have. Look at the steering neck and the VIN is stamped into the neck there, give us the first 3 of the VIN, also compare it to the VIN on the engine case to see if they match. But to be sure of the year and model look at the steering neck.Nathan

The stock box does keep the rain out. I agree it is not the best design but I will be keeping it on Yami. Primarily because of the rain.

This has been discussed numerous times, and there are a few that swear their bike stumbles in the rain because of the pods, (I still think it's because of electrical) but I ride all year long with pods. Sometimes in torrential, monsoon-like downpours, and even when going by trucks and getting hit with a tidal wave of water, the bike just keeps purring along, never missing a beat, and actually runs STRONGER in the rain.. which isn't really good when giving it gas while passing and hitting those slick painted lines.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

the back of the tank has a line he sez and there's the clue!
If you have a flush-mount gas cap it's doubly sure, you have a Standard gas tank.
Note that a Standard gas tank will also fit on a Special so we are not yet sure what bike you have.
The Standard has square gauges, headlight and signals and a 17" rear wheel
while the Special has round ones and a 16" rear wheel.
But wait! Those parts can also be swapped over.
What almost always nails it is the front axle location and brake caliper style.
If the axle is underneath the fork lower and the calipers are normal, it's a Standard.
If the axle is on the front of the fork lower and the calipers swivel and have tapered pads, it's a Special.
But hey, although it's rarely done, the entire fork complex will swap, too.
The only sure way to find out what model your bike was when it left the factory is to check the frame letter prefix & serial number.
Note that Frankenbikes have a long and glorious history on this list so whatever you got, it's good.Last edited by fredintoon; 11-25-2013, 01:24 PM.Fred Hill, S'toon

What do you mean by only having neutral and 1st? Do you mean with the bike sitting there stationary, you can only shift those? If that's the case, no worries. You'll have to roll the bike back and forth a bit to get it to be able to shift into another gear.
If you've only got neutral and 1st while riding, that's another issue we'll tackle.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
