That is the crank case breather hose. It can simply be left to hang, most folks tie wrap it to something though. Many folks put a small filter or cloth over the end just to keep the bugs and critters out.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

There's been many discussions on pod filters here, so do some reading. Basically, all pods are not created equal. Some (Cheap Emgo filters) have a lip that obstructs some jets on the inlet bell of the carbs. In that case, you'll need some "Velocity stacks" or some sort of tubing to get the filters placed back from the carbs a bit. Most other filters are ready for use as-is, but it's said that the velocity stacks work well for tuning purposes, though I've never had a problem with mine.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

Hey TrueFreak,
Neither your Profile nor signature states what year/model style of bike you have?? The Special petcocks are simple gravity feed types, and utilize a separate vacuum controlled valve....the infamous Octy with it's 8 or so odd fuel lines! The Standard petcocks are vac. controlled, and have a separate nipple on the inner side of the valve body that a vac. line attaches to separately from the 2 bottom fuel nipples. You can bypass the Standards vac. control by using the PRIME function/position of the petcock.

I'm not sure of the model....I have duel front breaks but otherwise I'm not sure...picked the bike up 200.00 and within 3 days had it firing off starting fluid and a wd40 mix....bbasically I had a frame and 6 boxes of parts....title and was reg last year....I'm a noob. With xs I'm used to Harley....my petcock has a bigger line then the inside has a smaller line...also the back of the tank has a line79 xs1100 standard ....Bobber project

Check the numbers on the engine and frame. 2H7000XXXX is a standard, and I think that is what you have. The vacuum petcocks work well, IMHO, and I would and do use them on my bikes. two small lines from carbs 1&4, and your ready to go.
If the tank has the gas cap flush, it's a standard. The special tank has a cap that sits up, and is on the right side.
The hose in the back of the tank is a drain for the gas cap area. It is steel, and does go through the fuel area. Run a wire through it, then test to be sure it does NOT have any holes rusted through!

Looking at the carbs from the rear:
Top "T" between 1/2 & 3/4 are VENT LINES! These NEED to be open, so just put about 1" of hose on each one, and put a 1/4" fuel filter on the top to keep the bugs out.
Bottom "T" between 1/2 & 3/4 is the FUEL inlet. I run a line from the Left side to carbs 3/4, on the right side of the bike. Rune the other line between the Right petcock and carbs 1/2 on the Left side of the bike. Left and Right are as you sit on the bike.
The #2 carb has a fitting at the front. This is for the vacuum line that connects to the advance unit on the left side of the crank. The #2 & 3 intakes should have vacuum plugs, and vacuum line go from #1 & #4 to the respective fuel petcock.Ray Matteis
