Tech tip: Do not run out of gas.
Tip 2: Don't let anyone see you doing mouth to tank resussitation!

I've run the small cone filters with no problems. However, I have the lines running from left petcock to right carb inlet and vice versa. And they often have AIR in them, but they still flow. The trick is to not have the hoses run too far below the carb bowls before they get to the inlets.

But yeah, you got to have enough fuel in the tank to PUSH the fuel to the carbs...they are gravity fed. And because there's not that much flow thru the carb inlet, and it stops and starts, and is vented is why it doesn't work with the siphon principle.

As stated, glad you figured it out.
