  • Pingel Update

Hi all. Just a update on the PINGEL I installed in place of the Octy I know I have been one of the few if not the only Octy fan, but after rebuilding mine a couple of years ago, it failed last year and CARBS FLOODED AGAIN I beleive it is due to changes in todays gas, so on Biker Phill's recomend, I bought a PINGEL vac. shutoff for about $100.00. best money spent on bike so far It fits about in place of the Octy and I plumed it with two adaptor "T's" so I could run both smaller size petcocks into one larger size PINGEL inlet and then two elbow joints anf the other "T" let me run the larger PINGEL outlet into the smalled size 2 carb fuel inlets. I capped off both "prim" nippels at the tank to make it easy and cleaner install.

I was able to do it all with carbs on the bike, including removing the old Octy It has worked flawlessly and the hundred bucks is less then I have wasted on oil changes from carb overflow in the past Any one who has a Special and does this and the fuse box upgrade will save them tones of problems I couldn't fine my camera, so no pic's, but if any want more info, let me know if I can help

Yep, I also use those on both my Std. and Special, never have to worry about flooding carbs.

Glad that worked out for you Lon

        Pingel

Here is a link to the Pingel #9050-AV
        https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...ed=0CGMQ8wIwAg
If the link doesn't work just Google "Pingel 9050-AV" and click on "shopping" and you will find it. It has a single larger inlet and outlet, so just plug a plastic "T" adapter with 2 smaller nipples and one larger nipple to alow you to connect the two "RUN" lines from your OEM petcocks to the 2 small nipples on the "T" fitting, then connect the 1 larger "T" fitting nipple to a short 1" pice of fuel line and connect the other end of the fuel line to the Pingel "inlet" nipple.

Make the same setup to connect to the Pingel "outlet" nipple, only connect 2 plastic elbows to the two smaller nipples of the "T" fitting that you connected to the "outlet" nipples of the Pingel, this will alow you to connect the 2 carb "inlet" fuel lines to the elbows (you may be able to use a "Y" fitting in place of the "T" fitting and 2 elbows if you want, all the plastic fittings you need can be found at most auto parts stores)

Next, you will need to connect the vac. line to one of you intake manafolds, I did this with a strait plastic addaptor as the OEM manafold fitting is smaller then the vac fitting on the Pingel, you could also use the larger extra fitting that comes with the pingel, but you would have to drill out the manafold vac. hole to install it. I removed all the lines from the OEM "prime" on the petcocks and just pluged the petcock nipples off. I tied the pingel down to the carbs using a plastic zip tie and a small pice foam rubber to cushen the vibration. hope this helps

            Octy

The OEM Octy valve is still available NOS from some dealers for about the same money, but I wouldn't take a chance with todays gas, the Pingel is designed for it, the Octy? maybe, maybe not

              OEM NOS Octy

              http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/ya...520-00-00.html

Here is the NOS Octy for 88 bucks, but I would still pay the extra 20 bucks for the Pingel, but if you doing a pure restoration, here it is

I have yet to have any problems with my octy, or with my OEM fuse box. Must be all this Northwest weather keeping them wet. LOL

Fuel can be different from state to state, glad you are having good luck with your bike, but the fuse box fix for 10 bucks and about 1/2 hour of your time is a no brainer even if it hasn't given you problems yet, it solved problems I didn't even know it caused

Thanks, and you only need one works great if you connect to both petcocks like I did, and I think Phil just uses one petcock and blocked the other petcock and works for him that way.

Sorry about the drawing (my best art work LOL) but I didn't take pic's when doing it. I have two in-line fuel filters between the Pingel "OUT" and the carbs, that is why I used a "t" and two elbows instead of one "Y" fitting, just fits better
