Ok, I called up Pingel and the fella said they do not sell the diaphragms but will gladly rebuild the unit for $15, seems fair enough so I sent the unit and $15 to them. For the meantime I have bypassed the unit with a piece of 1/4" metal tubing.

Today at my work i took a 1/4 x 28 Allen head bolt, and used a size 45 drill bit and drilled a hole right through the center.I then cut off the head and am going to use this as my reducer.

I am getting ready to install my pingel valve that showed but realize i have a problem, the fuel line from the petcocks is 1/4", but the inlet to the pingel valve is 5/16". I can't find a t or y connector with 1/4, 1/4, 5/16 setup.

            How did you handle this?

            Thanks,

            Steve

I use 1/4" fuel line and also use slightly bigger metric fuel line-I really don't think the Pingel barbs are 5/16". My 1/4" fuel line fit over it no problem. To slip hose over tight barbs i run it under hot water in the sink and when it is hot enough i put it on the barbs.

Thank you OldYam80, I hadn't looked closely to the Barb, you are right. 1/4 ID did go on, snug, but it went on.

                Thank you again.

Interesting concept, however a couple of years ago when the vacuum shutoff on my 650 Maxim became unreliable I added a simple 12v fuel shutoff valve to the system. The same valve could be added to an XS in the same way as the Pingel valve. I have used these valves for years, primarily on our ATV's due to constant float problems due to extensive trailering and have never had a problem with any of them.

As a matter of fact, the valve pictured here is off of one of the ATV's that is apart for other problems right at the second. On the bike, the petcock does only on and reserve, no prime function is needed because switch on = gas on, switch off = gas off. Prime ports (or bungs) were capped.

It takes less than an hour to install and wire to any accessory wire controlled by the ignition switch. Very simple, easy, and reliable. Also costs around $30 at most parts stores.

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

Well that's just tickety-boo Dragon, but how about a name or Part No. for us simple minded folk. , because that looks a WHOLE lot better than putting out for a Pingel that sounds like it's not all that reliable??

So 1 person had a slight issue and the parts no good?Well guess what-that electrical part can also fail too! Nothing is 100% fool proof in case you don't know!

Well for 100 bucks and having to pay 15 bucks to rebuild it, and pay shipping to send it in I would say "not reliable" may be a legitimate comment since it's only a few years old I believe. Somebody pee in your cornflakes this morning? I'm entitled to my opinion just as you are. If I pay premium prices for something, I expect it work in a premium way, and $100 bucks for a vacuum fuel valve is pretty premium.

                              Octy

You can always by a brand new OEM octy. here for $79.00, I still like my pingel, and now that I know about the vacuum line restrictor insert, I should be fine for years, thanks Phil for the update

I'm not trying to be disagreeable, it's just that I would be disappointed with that if I shelled out that much and had that happen. And I can assure you, if it were to happen to anyone, it would be me. I'm the guy that buys a new alternator for his car, takes it home and it's DOA right out of the box. And that's NEW not rebuilt. Once I bought a stove and it came delivered from HomeDepot and the box didn't have a mark on it. When the guys unboxed it for me the whole side of the stove was bashed in! We couldn't figure that out except it had to have happened at the factory. In any case I DON'T have a Pingel but I have my opinion, and as we all know, opinions are like a**holes, everbody has one. If you own one and are happy with it, that's great, and all the power to you. I'll stick to the stock octy since it's still working fine. Apologies to anyone I've offended, but I've beat the grim reaper a number of times in the last few years, and at 60 I don't get too worked up about some things; life is too short.
