  • quick question

Ok jus wondering if i can use 79 xs1100 float needle valve and seat and gasket on 80 xs1100 carbs. the reason is i need a jet needle for 1 card and it only comes with the 79 set repair kit. it will save me $15 if i can just use those. any idea?

The jet needles are different and the float needles and seats are different.

So no, none of the parts are the same.

      needle jet: X-2
      Starter Jet: 25
      Pilot Jet: 42.5
      Air Jet main: 140
      Air Jet pilot: 185
jet needle: 5 GL 16 (part number: 452-14116-16-00)
      Float Height: 23.0 +0.5mm

      for the 80 & 81 Standard: Mikuni BS34-111 3H5-00 (3H5-01 for the 81H)
      Main Jets: 115 & 120 (for the inner 2)
      needle jet: X-2
      Starter Jet: 25
      Pilot Jet: 42.5
      Air Jet main: 140
      Air Jet pilot: 185
      jet needle: 51 Z7 (part number: 360-14116-07-00)

      for the 78 Standard: Mikuni BS34-11 2H7-00
      Main Jets: 137.5
      needle jet: X-2
      Starter Jet: 40
      Pilot Jet: 42.5
      Air Jet main: 140
      Air Jet pilot: 188
      jet needle: 5GZ6

      for the 79 Standard: Mikuni BS34-11 2H7-00
      Main Jets: 137.5
      needle jet: X-2
      Starter Jet: 32.5
      Pilot Jet: 42.5
      Air Jet main: 140
      Air Jet pilot: 180
      jet needle: 5GZ6

      Main Jets: 137.5
      needle jet: X-2

So you can see the Jet Needles are different from each year. They need to be matched to the Emulsion Tube and Main Jet from that particular year/model.

Actually, for correction purposes, the 80-81Special stock main jetting IS 110's across all four carbs. These carbs came with the shorter, quicker taper needles and matching main jetting, hence the different jet needle part numbers. BTW, 80-81Standard jet needle(metering rod) is among the unobtanium...NA.

Yep, that's one reason I went with the Dynajet kit. They come with their own set of new needles.

If the number on your needles match the one on the ebay needle, it should work, it will be the same taper.
