When i sold my SG, there was a box of parts went with it, including two new rear wheel bearings. I supplied one with the bike, and kept the other. No way was i parting with both of them.

Ordered a bearing today
I already own a Consolidated brand NKIA 5904 bearing that is very similar to the Yamaha part. As soon as I receive my bearing from James, I'll create a post in this thread describing the differences. This may be useful later when the Yamaha specific parts are no longer available. Based on my reading the NKIA 5904 has an inner race that is 0.25 mm narrower than the Yamaha specific part. If that's the case, then a 0.25 mm shim will be needed to install the bearing...or both ends of the spacer could be knurled to make up the gap. I will see and share my results.
NKIA 5904:
Inside Diameter: 20mm
Outside Diameter: 37mm
Width: 23mm

Whoops! I did not intend to create confusion...
Allow me to clarify.
James is selling the correct Yamaha specific bearing. You can use the Yamaha specific bearing without worry, and without any modifications. Just remove your old bearing and install the new Yamaha specific bearing and put all the inner hub parts back together the way is was. The Consolidated brand NKIA 5904 bearing that I have IS NOT the Yamaha specific bearing that James is selling.

I did not intend to create confusion. Please post a response if you are aware of the specific differences between the Yamaha specific bearing (part# 93313-62010-00) and the NKIA 5904.

...the NKIA 5904 bearing is the same dimensions as a (Yamaha Original Equipment) NA 5904 bearing (20 mm ID X 37 mm OD X 23 mm W), but is designed to take a lateral load. Technically, it's called an "Angular Contact Bearing". The reason you don't want to use it in your XS/XJ is because it has both needles and balls. The balls take the lateral load and some of the vertical load. In order to do that in a 23 mm width, the needles are much shorter to make room for the balls. The total available surface area to take the vertical load is smaller than the original equipment NA 5904 bearing.
BTW, Motion Industries, Inc. has locations all over the US.

But since some of these bearings have made it into the high thousand mile life span, we can assume that Yamaha over engineered the original bearing. Good standard engineering practice. Design for twice the expected load, have half the unexpected problems.
So, if the original bearings ever do become unobtainium, it would seem to be a viable option to use the NKIA 5904 bearing, and if you only get 50,000 miles out of it, BFD.
The main thing to focus on is to religiously clean and re-lubricate with un-contaminated grease at regular intervals. Someone suggested every tire change.
The problem there is that those who do not change their own tires are at the mercy of the greasy thumb mechanic at the local shop, And who knows if he understands that the dirt on his fingers can become part of the new grease that he is introducing into a bearing that was cleaned with solvent that has microscopic dirt particles in suspension, and not blown out with clean air. You can see where this is going.
For those of us that do our own work, I see no reason to fear using one of the NKIA 5904 bearings, of James cannot supply an original number bearing.
You didn't mention price, and that may be a deciding factor in some people's decision, but that is on them.
Thanks for bringing all the info to our attention, it is nice to have alternatives.
