anyone tried putting the mikunis off a gs1100e onto the xs11. the ones that i have been looking at are 34mm and from the early 80's so i'm curious if they could be modified to work. any input would be appreciated.

The spacing is different as you can see here..... GS on the left, XS on the right.
And being the carb throat is smaller too you will play hell getting them installed and sealed.Last edited by BA80; 05-16-2012, 04:59 PM.Greg

People have use the Kawasaki ZRX carbs and have reported good results. If you were considering purchasing a different set I would go with the ZRX's.'79 XS11 F

Your welcome Nick. I just happend to have that set of GS carbs here that came with the last XS parts bike I picked up, uninstalled of course, so I could show you the comparison.
Glad I could help and save you some grief.
I had the same thoughts when I got this thing home but after some study I found that it would be virtually impossible to make it work right.Greg

GS1100 carbs
Yep..they will work. If my memory serves me right the only difference is the spacing on the rack.78 XS1100E Standard

Maybe just switch the racks?
Foreda beat me to it. But if Greg says the throats are different diameter, you got a problem.
NICK: Do you have any carbs now to draw parts from? i might have another solution for you. PM or email me.Tom Clisham

As one of those who switched to the Keihin carbs from a ZRX, I respectfully ask the question; why make the switch from early 80's Mikunis to another set of early 80's Mikunis from another make of bike?
The reason I switched to the Keihins (aside from the performance aspect) was that the ZRX rack is 20 year newer technology, parts are easier to find, they take and hold a tune-up much more easily and are vitrually a plug-n-play deal.
Here is a pic or two of my 36mm carbs. They are from a 2001 ZRX-1200. Whole deal was under $200.00 (including the new filters and choke set-up) and the performance is like night and day compared to the 70/80's era Mikunis. So if you are changing to different carbs then, this (or something similar) is the way to go. Plus, they have a neat idle speed adjustment knob at the bottom of the #1 carb.

Hey Nick. Granted I got a steal of a deal on the carbs but they do pop up on Ebay from time to time and I am sure there are others that will do the trick too. I have seen sets off of slightly older 1999 ZRX-1100's more often there. They are the same carburetor but you will need to re-jet them to much larger jets. But then, you would need to re-jet anyways.Mike Giroir

If you guys are still out there, the KTRIC is simply a throttle position sensor used as part of the equation to adjust timing advance. Will have no bearing for use on the XS.
Most guys (myself included) disconnect the KTRIC on the ZRX as it changes the timing (more advance) below 4k rpm to give a more favorable throttle response.Howard

BTW, ZRX carbs have the same spacing as the XS11... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35462
