i do have one but the wires were cut by the po, but the switches on it all seem to work if you need it you can have it, it would just need to have longer wires and a connector added. just let me know.

          • little by little

got a few things done today nothing noteworthy, but still moving forward. I got my new speedo cable installed, the old one was busted at the drive connection. also rigged up a throttle cable to work with my fj carbs, untill i get the new one in next week. a few minor wiring things tied up, and working towards trying to take her out for my first ride next weekend. wish me luck.

            • Looks like you've been making good progress. I just joined but I've been lurking around your build for a while. I like how you post the details of your mods and am impressed by the tank hold down. Good luck on riding her soon.

well i thought that i would have it running this weekend, but a few minor set backs. the good thing is that it seems like its nothing major. leaky petcocks, means rebuild time. and since the bike hasnt been ran since i started the build the battery needs to be replaced. the good thing is that since i have to wait for the rebuild kits arrive there are a few things that i was gonna do once i got it started, but will do now (oil change, all fluids changed, bleeding the brakes). there was enough juice for me to check out some of the wiring i did (tail light, headlight, and switches), and all seem to be working as planned. also i just wanted to thank TC and GLoweVA for stopping by and helping out. one good thing is that i think we might have found out where i can hook up the vacuume advance on the fj carbs. i will post some pics of the process once i get into hooking it up. I will have to say that there is such a great community of people on here, with alot of passion for these bikes. everyone has been so helpful, and i am trying to give back, by documenting and taking pics of the fj carb mod. as soon as i have the carbs working i will post a thread on the whole process of installing them, and how well they work.

                • few more little things

today i was able to get the front brakes bled. that took a while, and i still need to do it a little more, because they are still alittle spongey. also i came up with something a while back but just got around to doing it. that is taking the cheap headlight and making it alot better. it had a small bulb and wasnt very bright. so i looked around at the auto parts store and there was a round car headlight that was the same size six inches. so i got one and it fit with little work and it had the same plug set up as my stock headlight plug. It is one of the silverstar lights. i havent had a chance to see how bright it is, dead battery, i will get one this weekend, and check it out and take some pics. left my camera at work. little by little.

                  • playing with pinstripping

i thought i would play around with doing some pinstripping while i am waiting on some parts to arrive.

first is the design on the tank

then one on the back fender

i used an 1/8 inch red pinstripping that i got from the auto parts store. i freehanded the design on the tank with a grease pencil, i went with this design to go along with the spike grips and the spike on the sissy bar. i think it turned out pretty good, but i think it needs some white mixed in there. just let me know what you think.

                    • Wow, that looks great for being free-hand! You have some artistic skill! How do you lay down the sharp corners? Cut with scissors and overlap each part?

On the tank, the diamond and the other enclosed shape might look good in white, then add more red on the forward part of the tank to top it off. Or just give it a "twinkle explosion" with white rays off the top and both sides of the shape.

well i started off college as an art major, i do alot of paintings and sculpting, but this is my first time trying out pinstripping. I am going to get a pinstripping brush and practice alot then put that design on the right way. as far as how i got the sharp corners i over lapped the peices then cut off the excess with a knife where the two peices met.

i have been watching alot of those videos lately, and have been doing alot of research into the types of brushes and paints used in pinstriping. i have been doing paintings for almost 25 years, using all different kinds of paints and painting styles. and doing pinstriping is like any other form of brush painting, it is just learning the techniques and how to use the brush, and having the right tools. i know that its not an overnight thing to learn pinstriping, but i know with some practice that i will be able to do my own. and yes i cant spell worth a damn.

                            • Airbrush

I know it's a whole different ballgame, but I was wondering if you've ever tried airbrushing? Back when I was in high school, I gave it a try. I never got very far, but I can see how it would be fun.

                              • Air brush.

I have been trying to teach myself how to do real flames and other things with my air brush. You can make pretty cool paint jobs with stencils that dont turn out too bad. The real flames are a little tricky but you know what they say practice makes perfect. I have done some pinstripeing with tape too and it doesnt turn out too bad it you realy cover it well with clear. There are a lot of good videos of youtube for realflames and just about anything you could want to try with an airbrush. I got my first one at harbor fraight for like 15 bucks,.
