got a few things done today nothing noteworthy, but still moving forward. I got my new speedo cable installed, the old one was busted at the drive connection. also rigged up a throttle cable to work with my fj carbs, untill i get the new one in next week. a few minor wiring things tied up, and working towards trying to take her out for my first ride next weekend. wish me luck.

Looks like you've been making good progress. I just joined but I've been lurking around your build for a while. I like how you post the details of your mods and am impressed by the tank hold down. Good luck on riding her soon.80 G, Spaghetti pipes, K&N in stock airbox, Galfer S/S lines.

few more little things
today i was able to get the front brakes bled. that took a while, and i still need to do it a little more, because they are still alittle spongey. also i came up with something a while back but just got around to doing it. that is taking the cheap headlight and making it alot better. it had a small bulb and wasnt very bright. so i looked around at the auto parts store and there was a round car headlight that was the same size six inches. so i got one and it fit with little work and it had the same plug set up as my stock headlight plug. It is one of the silverstar lights. i havent had a chance to see how bright it is, dead battery, i will get one this weekend, and check it out and take some pics. left my camera at work. little by little.

playing with pinstripping
i thought i would play around with doing some pinstripping while i am waiting on some parts to arrive.
first is the design on the tank
then one on the back fender
i used an 1/8 inch red pinstripping that i got from the auto parts store. i freehanded the design on the tank with a grease pencil, i went with this design to go along with the spike grips and the spike on the sissy bar. i think it turned out pretty good, but i think it needs some white mixed in there. just let me know what you think.Last edited by Nightengale; 04-26-2012, 05:55 PM.

Wow, that looks great for being free-hand! You have some artistic skill! How do you lay down the sharp corners? Cut with scissors and overlap each part?
On the tank, the diamond and the other enclosed shape might look good in white, then add more red on the forward part of the tank to top it off. Or just give it a "twinkle explosion" with white rays off the top and both sides of the shape.'81 XS11H Venturer - holed up in storage while life happened since 07/08/04

that's pinstriping with only one P. Like a pinstripe suit.
Your red striping tape job looks great.

Airbrush
I know it's a whole different ballgame, but I was wondering if you've ever tried airbrushing? Back when I was in high school, I gave it a try. I never got very far, but I can see how it would be fun.'81 XS11H Venturer - holed up in storage while life happened since 07/08/04

Air brush.
I have been trying to teach myself how to do real flames and other things with my air brush. You can make pretty cool paint jobs with stencils that dont turn out too bad. The real flames are a little tricky but you know what they say practice makes perfect. I have done some pinstripeing with tape too and it doesnt turn out too bad it you realy cover it well with clear. There are a lot of good videos of youtube for realflames and just about anything you could want to try with an airbrush. I got my first one at harbor fraight for like 15 bucks,.80 XS1100G Black Betty (Daily Driver)
