BTW, Tkat's excellent fork brace sells for ~$100 new. A Venture gas tank sells for way more due to it's rarity.[/QUOTE]

      So Fred, What's YOUR offer?

Ok sorry not tryin to beat you up over it...If it was your first bike and you didnt know..heck you didnt know...As long as you enjoy it thats all that really matters.
I have owned my XJ since brand new and several times I thought about chopping it up or turning it into a dual sport to handle dirt roads...in the end i decided to preserve its originality as much as possible...only mods that are on the bike now are the k+n pod filters and the kerker exhaust and carbs rejetted...oh and I just installe a new Stebel Nautilus dual air horn and dedicaated wire harness with built in relay...139db horn that will awaken any cager from their catatonic cellphone state...LOL

I think your project looks great. Mean and fat! I wonder what will happen at 100 on a corner when you hit a bump though.....If you could only get that look and still have a shock in the back.
          Nice work, be careful.

            The look

No question, it's a very popular look right now. Mostly with 650s . This bike should show some of those little guys up pretty well.

Re cutting a Venturer, yeah it's a shame, but the cutter had no idea of the rarity & was just glad to get a cheap cnavass to paint on. Let's blaim the PO.

And remember, If he didn't cut it, we wouldn't have all those juicy parts to squabble over!

And if it weren't for this guy, it'd rusting next to a tree somewhere.

thanks, it is a great feeling to take something that someone has neglected and discarded and bring it back to life. i wish i had pictures of how it looked when i first got it. it was rough to say the least and didnt run.

Well, you did ask for feedback, right? It's your bike and you can do with it what you want, of course, but I do think it's a terrible shame that you picked this bike to do it to. The bobber concept eludes me somewhat anyway. It seems a waste to have a big, powerful engine in a bike which is then modified in ways which then make it impossible to use the power of the engine, and sacrifice handling, and make it uncomfortable to ride by having no rear suspension. I don't really grasp what it actually means.

However, that said, it's whatever floats your boat, as they say, so have fun, enjoy and do your thing!

Very few things in life give such immediate and visceral feedback as an angle grinder and a welder! Every time I pick either one up my eyes start looking around the garage for a suitable victim. So far I have avoided direct contact with the XS11. I kinda like the old girl just the way she is.

Looks like yer havin' a good time resuscitating an old, unloved machine. It's not like yer choppin' up a concours Brough Superior, fer Gawd's sake. Let the sparks fly and have some fun.

After riding a few different seat spring set-ups, I find the hairpin springs give a superior ride. Less rebound than the beehive and softer than the shock-absorber type. JMO YMMV.

                            Life is short, ride hard...

                              Hi Shack,
you wouldn't need to chop a Brough, with rare exceptions, George built them with rigid frames and his own Castle forks which were a copy of H-D's springer.

Max, I like your air horn idea.
I've been thinking about doing something like that too.
Maybe mount the horns under the fairing.
