For cleaning aluminium objects, the use of sodium bicarbonate is discouraged as it attacks the thin unreactive protective oxide layer of this otherwise very reactive metal.

idle mixture screws

here's a trick I invented (or perhaps re-invented).
Get a screwdriver bit that fits the needle slot real good and put it in a drill press.
Unplug the drillpress, this is a manual thing.
Put the carb body on the drill press baseplate, use the drill feed handle to force the drill bit hard down into the needle's screwdriver slot.
While keeping the screwdriver bit hard down into the slot turn the drill chuck by hand to turn the needle out.
Works most of the time.
