  • Rear Wheel bearing LHS

My LHS rear wheel bearing is stuffed. Any suggestions where I can get another one? Has anybody tried fitting two narrower bearings instead?
    Any help appreciated
    Phil

The ominous Left hand rear wheel bearing, better known bearingus unobtaniumous (not to be found.). a few members have found some stashes over the years, I forget who it was that recently found someone who had more than a few and at a decent price.

If you search for threads on left rear wheel bearing, I am sure you can find more than a couple threads with options others have tried.

Its been measured and no dice as far as doubleing-up. Several of us have spares just in case as they are among the unobtanium through normal souces. The NTN bearing number is NA5904. A member here ordered several having an "inside" source, but CRS and can't remember right off who that was. Someone may chime in with the info as the last I remember he still had a couple to sell......but that was last year too.

I think I may have found a source online. Not sure the quantity they have but I ordered one. Will let you know if I ever receive it.

I have heard that it was tried to order those bearings from that supplier in the past and ended up being unable to be done. They listed the part but could not supply it. If this has changed I know *I* will be jumping on the wagon to order at least one, maybe two.

There was something they found on the UK site that was supposed to work by using two different bearings with a spacer as they didn't quite add up to the same width. I also seem to recall (but haven't checked back again) that there was a bearing they found that also they though would work that was a combo roller and needle bearing in one, but most of the debate was on if the bearings that had been found could handle the load over the long term.

Best I've found so far is a NA4909. This has the same internal and external diameters, but is narrower at 17mm. Original is 22. Would work with a 5mm spacer, but I dont know how it would carry the load. Phil

PS: I got an original of MXMikie. Just waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

Sure, but you'd need 2 5mm spacers, one for the outer dia. and one for the inner race. How would that be accomplished?

P.S. the original is 23mm wide

No, just one with a 20 mm hole through it and 6mm thick, put it in the wheel before the bearing is inserted.

OK, then how about this...there's already a spacer there on the outside of the bearing, it pokes through the seal, right? How about installing one that's 6mm longer?
