  • Man, this is a dumb one...

Hey, I know this is a dumb-a$# question but I gotta ask it cause I can't get anything else done to the bike til I do...how the heck do you get the freakin seat off???????? When I use the key to unlock the sucker, it does, but then I can't get the thing to come off. Yep, I'm a newbie so pretty dumb and inexperienced but is there a trick from that point to get it off? Blast away you guys with all the smart remarks but someone seriously tell me my answer please!!! Thanks!

Mine had a bolt on each side, and you'd just loosen and pull back.

      Hello,

Mine has nuts on either underside of seat that have to just be loosened and then slid forward or is it back. Then you lift up slightly and slide back from under the tank.

      Hope this is your answer...

Actually the answer is even more dumb-ass than the question. The seat is bolted down I kid you not. The lock you saw is a helmet lock. Two 14mm nuts under the seat by the frame rails.

            seat removed

Not to go against everyone but my seat lock has a latch/lever that I have to push down on both sides. On the lock side the lock turns one way to release the helmet latch and the other releases the seat but I still have to push down on the lever.

It looks like you are asking about an XJ, not an XS. The key lock only releases the one side. These is a little lever on each side of the seat lock mechanism that you flip. Then lift the back of the seat and slide it back toward the rear of the bike. At this point it should just lift right off.

As suggested, you should get a manual. You can download one for free from the link in my signature. You'll find there are a few things (like this one) that are unique about the XJ when comared to the XS's.

You should also put your model in your signature so we know what bike you're asking about.

Thanks man--absolutely right, i do have the XJ1100 and your response worked for me. I also downloaded the service manual so...today's been a good day. Could make it a better day now if someone has some tips on cold-weather starting after the bike's been sittin for a week or two!

                        1sttimeXSowner,

You might also update your signature, and put the bike type, year, all that good stuff there, that way we can tell what ya got and help ya better.

Case in point: XS seats bolt down... XJ's have 2 levers on each side...

If they give ya too hard of a time around here... you can always PM me... I've got one too.

                            Dude...

                            Update the signature and location....

For at least 75% of us out there, there is someone close by also!!! Cold starting....

welllllll you could always shoot some dragon juice (starting fluid) in the air filters...not the best way, but it does work...also shoot some down the cylinder if your having trouble, but best bet is to figure out WHY its starting hard cold!!!! weak spark, bad fuel. bike engines are the same as the rest. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. any one of them can make the bike run bad.....
