yeah
I was thinkin the same thing mmo or maybe sea foam I think the seafoam is a little more effective. I used it on my 78 and it doesn't smoke at all anymore , how long should I run the current oil in this beast before I swap it out , I did drain the 10 year old stuff out but I am thinking it will load up with extra carbon and stuff from the mmo/seafoam. And should I change the filter it has only run for about 1/2 an hour total??91 kwaka kz1000p

quickie
so put it all back together today and installed the stock foot pegs, the po had some home made rear sets (crap) and flipped the gearshift around installed the rear brake lever and tank and the seat . I got brave and fired her up and gave her a quick test run around the block, man its amazing how squirly a bike can get with only 5lbs psi in the tires , so went to the gas station filled up the tires and topped off the tank and rode home , I was suprised how well it ran !!! needs a little sync (hanging idle at 2k) but otherwise great , no hesitation and the gears shift smoothly and the clutch seems to grab good . I am thinking what else I need to get now , fork seals rear shocks tires and fix the head light91 kwaka kz1000p

forking fork caps!
so I had planned to replace the fork seals on the f and had all the front end torn down and i went to loosen the caps and the left one loosened easily , but when I tried to take off the right one the friggin nut on top cracked and warped out of shape (damn you aluminium) luckily I have an extra set of forks off the 80g parts bike that are in pretty good condition , bled the air out , impacted the drain screws . so I took the first cap off and it suprised me and shot the little cap/washer into outer space and I dont have a garage so it took about a 1/2 an hour to find it again, anyways these forks seals are "good" so its clean refill and install . any recommendation on psi , I dont have a fairing but I am a big guy and weigh about 230lbs the book says any where between 5-35 lbs???91 kwaka kz1000p

With the factory springs, I would run about 15 to 20 PSI. If you put in Progressive brand springs, NO AIR. Remember, this is a SMALL volume, so ONLY use a hand pump!!Ray Matteis

pump
So pump measure and adjust 15-20lbs sounds. Good - I still have to clean them, I figure some braklean. Should I flush with new fork oil or will it dry clean and of course put the caps back on91 kwaka kz1000p

Brakeclean WILL dry in about 30 minutes. I would just clean them, let them set for about an hour, and then assemble. Remember to measure the fork oil and pour it in the top of the forks, then try and put the caps on!Ray Matteis

forkin done
so I replaced the 79f forks w/80G air forks that i cleaned and refilled , getting the caps on at first was an sob but what I did was take the springs out and chase the threads out with the caps and found exactly where they drop in the thread then put in the springs compressed the caps with my hand and was able to thread the caps very easily by turning only about from 10- 2 oclock reassembled the front end alligned the brakes and tire , all I need to do is put air in them and the front end will be done , still have to install blinkers in front and the rear shocks as well as refinish my new hardbags and install them and of course new tires .91 kwaka kz1000p
