Ok, I adjusted the screw at the clutch cover, and that tightened things up, but now it's REALLY tight. I don't feel any movement when I squeeze the grip. The grip moves, but it almost feels like I'm just stretching the cable or something. Definitely not as smooth as it was before I opened this can 'o worms.

Check that you did not get the cable bound up in the handle when you gave it slack. The barrel may have slid up and the cable not be in the groove properly, or perhaps the cable got twisted when you had it pulled out of the case and the routing is not as it should be?

Did you get the clutch lever back in the right position when you installed the cover? It has three possible positions and only one is right.

You just said there is nothing. Does that mean the the handle pulls in but the clutch doesnt disengage, or does it mean that the clutch wont engage at all?

Keep your chin up, we'll get it figured out.

I figured it out, but it's not a happy thing... Evidently, when I was tightening down the clutch spring bolts, the "sproing" I felt wasn't just something slipping into place. I took the side cover back off, and the cluch just was not moving at all. I started to unscrew the bolts to see what happened, and I was able to unscrew all of them without the plate letting go! I tapped on it, and it jumped into my hands, along with all the springs, and one of the posts that the springs ride on!!

The post must have snapped when I was tightening it down, and it made the cluch bearing sit in the raceway at an angle, not allowing it to slide in and out. So, now I need a new "Pressure Plate #2". This is what I get for feeling confident, I guess...

              broken post

              Hey Catatonic,
there should be a post about fixing a broken post
on the star plate, from memory the broken post was
drilled and tapped, then secured with a bolt.
keep at it, you'll get there.

Unfortunately, mine did not break off clean at the base. The whole base broke out. To be honest, I wouldn't trust any repair on that kind of a break, unless it was professionally welded.

If Andreas cannot help, let me know. I prefer you try him first, as that is how he makes ends meet. I do have a spare clutch, and I WAS going to save it "just in case". But IF you cannot get one quickly, let me know via PM and I can send it out.

No, I'm going with Andreas. He's got it. I just hate waiting for stuff. It's supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow, and I'm gonna have to share the cage with SWMBO again. It's all about instant gratification! Too bad you can't e-mail parts...
