I usually run NGK's, but was in a hurry to get plugs just to try to solve a problem running. Later, rebuilt the carbs and the Autolites are still in. Runs smoothly, so I didn't change them.

What kind of mileage do you guys get? With my fairing, box, bags, and 225lb me on the bike, I only get about 33 mpg. Does anyone get the 47 that they tested back when the bikes were new? That's the reason for the 5th gear mod interest.

which Bosch spark plug works in the XS11

I've been using the Bosch Platinum WR7DP (4216) since I brought my '80 Special home - 'never had ANY problems with it, and I have more power than I know what to do with

Now that I have the NGK iridium plugs, I now have a lot of wheel spin through 1st and 2nd gears. Tire has plenty of tread left, so what would be a better tire than the Dunlop 491 for traction?

I was just about to order some spark plugs for my XS11 and they stopped carrying the Bosch 4216 at Kragen's (down the street from my shop) so I thought after reading this thread to go to eBay and order some...
Found a GREAT price at R&R Import Parts in Union City, California
                  ( http://www.rrparts.com/index.html )
                  $7.25 for 4 plugs, $6.50 for shipping.
the plugs were here THE next day.
I won't buy my plugs anywhere else again.

I was so pleased with their speedy shipping I decided to call them and ask if they could get the NGK BPR6EIX iridium plugs - they can get them in ONE day... they're NOT cheap ($7/ea) but if they're 1/2 as good as everyone says I'll try a set.

Man, did I screw that up....
                    I paid $7.25 for EIGHT (8) spark plugs - NOT 4
(I didn't see my mistake until it was too late to 'edit')

Gotta throw a nickle in here and see what it gets me....

The Iridium plugs are high mileage plugs in that the cathode is made of Iridium and will not deteriorate over long continuous use. Thus making the needed re-gaping requirements unnecessary for longer periods of use. To change the sparks on my Mitsubishi requires removal of the intake system, Iridium plugs are specified and will last for 100,000 miles. Mine went 130,000. I will say at 130k, they looked beautiful, but I was not going to pop them back in. The new ones did not change my mileage or my power.

The heat range of spark plugs is not the heat of the spark but the spark plugs ability to dissipate heat through the plugs porcelain... this is achieved by the length of the cathode nose inside the plug. A hotter plug retains the heat and runs at a hotter operating temperature.

They are expensive but you will never go back. No other plug even gets close.

Still running the Bosch P4+. They didn't seem to do much with stock coils, iggy, and carbs. However, after the DIS and the FI, they made a noticable difference.

Another vote for the NGK Iridium

Probably still a week or two away from getting my (first) XJ1100, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I've had the Iridiums in my '82 XJ750 for years. I've already ordered a set for the XJ1100 I don't even have yet! Never had a fouled plug in the XJ750. As a result of my good experience in the XJ, I put Iridiums in my RD400. Now, despite it's issues (and I don't know if I'll ever really get it "dialed in"!), I've never fouled a plug! Wouldn't believe it if I hadn't lived it...
