    Factory swingarm

I have been searching for a (abundant/cheap) swingarm that can utilise the same stock shock mount locations as the xs11's to go with the Chaindrive and keep the cost to a minimum. I really like the ZRX swingarms but I have noticed that they are also sought after by CBX afficianado's and other Kawasaki Tweekers. Eventually I will find one and keep everyone posted....

      Re: Factory swingarm

A straight switch out swingarm would save me a bunch of time and effort that's for sure.

Do you mean like off early 1980s KZ1000s and perhaps GPZ 1100s?

              Hi Guys,

I think that I have an arm from a Z1000J (UK model?) hanging on a hook in the shop right next to an XS11 arm.

I can do some pics and measurement in the morning......

                        Hi Chop,

Finally got to it....... This arm is fairly sturdy looking; main tubes are 42mm. This one has a home-brewed brace added; Just ask if you want a pic........

Pivot is 16mm diameter... pivot tube is 38mm O/D and 234mm long..... about 9 1/4"

From the center of the pivot to the middle of the slot for the spindle is around 500mm; 19 3/4"

Center of pivot to shock bolt is 460mm; 18 1/8"

The wheel spindle is 20mm O/D, and 234mm shows between the adjuster plates (same as the pivot length....)

The inside faces of the shocks will be held 257mm apart; 10 1/16"

All the measurements are from eye-ball and steel tape, so don't hold me to the last mm..........

This was left over from a bike which we updated with a big-bore motor and modern running gear. We fitted an alloy arm from a GPZ1100 Unitracker. If my memory is OK, the pivot spindle diameter was the same, but we had to narrow the later arm across the pivot by around 15mm........

Hope some of this helps; keep up the work!

                          xs11 swingarm shock distance

Since I no longer have a frame with the shock studs, what is the xs11's shock separation on the swingarm (or frame should be same). If it is close then it would be worth conjuring up the spacers needed to mount the z1 swingarm to the xs11. The difficulty I see here is that the z1 pivot bearings need to have an I.D. of 25mm, so the custom 25mm shaft can be inserted that has the 17mm recessed holes for the stock xs11's swingarm pivot bolts......But I do like the fact that it is @9 inch width at pivots because it would be perfect for positioning a stock rear wheel and sprocket and also clearing the stock xs11 rear brake master (which is trivial)....I looked at a z1 swingarm (1980) on microfiche and it looks like the needle bearings are 22x28x16 which means that a 25x28 bearing (x2) would be needed for the swap.....Maybe a custom bronze bushing if these can't be procured......This is why I have always mentioned that a swingarm with a I.D. of 25mm (most newer ones are) is the ideal mate......

                            battery

Odyssey PC 545 fits perfectly in the rear cowl between the xs11 rear hanger tubes, just welded a battery box to fit in between. Shhhhhh.....got the donor sheet metal from some poor realtor's sign....

                                pic

Hey Alan a pic would be nice. member SCAPPOD emailed a link to ebay #120221484850. If the bearings could be changed (under dust caps) then we have a winner. We also still need to know the xs11 shock distance to see if it matches.....
