      • Thanks guys. Apparently I can fully disassemble, rebuild, customize my bike but cannot tune the carbs properly! At the moment, another gracious member has them in his posession for tuning! I hope this works so I can make the Texas Rally in two weeks!

I shot a base coat of red then used automotive pin striping tape to carefully lay out my line. I then shot the black base, removed the tape and shot clear. Easy as 3.14159......

                      • I see the lights at harbor freight, I see how i can mount it onto the bike, but i have no idea how to do the wiring. Any wiring/electrical Guru's able to teach me a thing or two or help me out with instructions on how i would go about installing them?

                        • fog/spot lights

I reinstalled a stand alone fog/spotlight relay system from Pep Boys ($19)and ran it straight from the battery. The relay switch power lead went to the fuze to the very right of the fuze panel for ON/Ignition position. When you skip the stock system, the lights are WAY brighter and you simply push the L.E.D. indicator button off if you don't want the lights on in the daytime......

                          • Hey Korr,

It will depend on IF you want a working HIGH BEAM, which you might need to have IF you have state inspections that require that. Not to mention being able to see, and yet not blinding oncoming cars during traffic vs. highway.

There are 3 wires in the headlight plug, the black=ground, the green=low beam, the yellow=high beam. You could run a split off of the ground wire to both lights grounds. You can then connect one light....recommend the right one aimed more lower and at the middle/right of the lane for the LOW beam and attach the green wire to it. Connect the Left light to the Yellow wire for the HIGHBEAM.

However, IIRC, when we switch from low to HIGH, the LOW filament doesn't stay on, but the other brighter filament lights instead. The OEM rated bulb is 55/60 watts. The add on lights are rated at 35 watts each, so running both would only be 70 watts, just 10 more than the high beam.

SO.....it would be nice to have 1 lite for low, but BOTH for HIGH! Here's the problem. When you put a load on a circuit, like 1 light at 35 watts, that's almost 3 amps. Connecting a second light in SERIES...going from POWER Source to (+) of first light, then out the (-) if first light to (+) of second light and then from (-) of second light to final ground, you've doubled the resistance for the load on that circuit, but will draw only appx. 6 amps thru that circuit.

But IF you split the Power lead and run Parallel wires to both (+)'s of each light you have actually reduced the resistance by half, which will draw MORE than the 6 amps thru that circuit wire, possibly overheating it or exceeding the capacity of the wire/circuit. Also, having a splice using the Yellow Hi beam wire to both lights would cause a bleed of power from the Lo beam to the high beam light when just the low beam Green wire was energized.

Remember I'm no Electrical Guru so hopefully Randy or 3Phase will review what I've said and make any needed corrections!?

Trying to use the OEM wiring and switches...I would connect the Low beam green lead from the headlight connector to the (+) of the right light. I would connect the right light ground to the Black wire of the connector. Here's where it will sound strange. I would connect the Yellow Hi beam wire from the connector to the Left headlight's (+) terminal....BUT I would connect the (-) of the Left/Hi headlight to the (+) of the LOW Beam headlight green wire!!

On Low, the green wire is energized, the power flows to the right light/Lo beam, and to ground. It can't flow thru the Left's (-) wire because the Hi Beam Yellow wire connected to it's (+) is disconnected in the switch, so you only get the LOW Beam/right light. When you switch to Hi Beam, the Yellow wire is energized, flows thru the Left Hi Beam's (+), thru the light, then from the (-) to the Low Beam/Right light's (+), energizing it, thru the light, and then to GROUND. This way you light up BOTH lights on HI, but only the 1/right one on LOW.

I'll try to post some more pics soon to bump the "Other Bikes and Babes" thread back to the top

                              • Enlightening

Wow TC that is a cool idea. I might just be un-lazy enough to try it this winter! When I wired mine, I just connected both green and yellow and I leave the switch on HI. It hasn't hurt anything yet. I thought about trying to do what you said but I really don't like the way the sport bikes look with one light lit. Makes it look like they've got a lamp out!

Thanks for bumping my little project to the top again! I'm always flattered by the compliments.

A got the priviledge of speaking with an officer of the law the other night. I went for one last spin before putting her in the garage and he caught me....doing the speed limit, wearing my helmet, minding my own business. He stopped me as I pulled into my neighborhood for the horrible crime of "improper tag display". He also gave me a ticket because I don't have my motorcycle endorsment on my license yet. Grand total of $280! I told him I have an 11 week old baby and that would buy a lot of diapers but he was an ass. I talked to some friends on the same police force and they knew exactly who wrote the ticket before I even told them.

So I guess I'll be posting some pics soon of a new tag bracket...one that "reads from left to right and is on the rear-most of the vehicle". Fun times!
