It's looking great, I'm lovin it, other than the rear fender looks like a Harley. Wheels, rims, little short shocks, double light, all very cool. Do you think you could get your buddy to make me some gas tank logos like the old nortons that say notorious. I'm just starting my next "winter project". It's a 1200 super xs. The Notorious xs12!

The Notorious XS12 sounds pretty bad arse. I'm not sure which friend of mine can make tank emblems though. I never got around to having any made. That would be pretty cool. Let me know if you do it.

I may have missed this but did you get your bullet turn signals on e-bay? I got a set from e-bay that looks identical and I'm disappointed in the brightness of them, especially the fronts being close to the headlight are very hard to see. I should have known that 10 bucks for a pair of signals they were going to be crap. If you didn't get yours on ebay are they bright? What brand are they?

Yes mine are from eBay. I am using LEDs inside them which makes them a little brighter but still not that great. I already have all the parts to convert my rears to Harley Bullets. They are cheap on eBay and much brighter....just wait till you see what's going in mine! I have solid LED panels that fill the whole lens....48 Leds in each I believe. They are blinding!

I bought an Illuminator controller from Badlands = http://www.badlandsmotorcycleproduct...cts/BETCSM.htm

And I bought the lights from Radiantz website but they must be partners because the Radiantz "Retroz" 48 LEDs are on the Badlands site as well. Depending on what Harley lights you choose you can buy the LEDs to fit. I would go with the "Duece" style lights. The actual Harley Duece came out in 2000 but they call all their new bullet style lights the "Duece" style. I am using V-ROD rear signals as my bullets but beware!!! The lenses from all other models will not fit the VROD bullets. I learned this the hard way. Just to be a$$es, (probably to save a buck from the Chinese lens manufacturer....I mean....USA! USA!) Harley made them a slightly different depth. I picked up the red lenses from my local "friendly" (LOL) Harley shop for about $20. I say friendly cause the sales guys hate it when I ride up and park next to their $20,000 bikes and customers come ask about my bike! Never fails....I'll come back and there's a couple guys looking at it then asking me what it is. Funny....no salesman has ever asked me about it!

Anyway I have not installed my system yet but it should be really nice once completed. As usual I will post pics and keep you posted.

A completely amazing bike.

I've had my 79 XS Std at least 15 years and have it mostly restored. Really wanted to modify it but my fiance likes to ride on it. Dropping it and putting on a single seat just won't work.

I found your bike on the website this week and was completely inspired. As fate would have it, a 79 XS Special with 13K original miles came up for sale in our local paper. Never seen another advertised before.....

Wouldn't you know, I am 6'2, 250, and have a 32" inseam. I take it as a sign 8-) to modify my bike.

Welcome to the site! Thanks for the compliments! I continue to enjoy the heck outta my bike. I ride any chance I get so I've put about 3,000 miles on it since the restomod. That's nothing for some of these long haul members but for me it's a lot since I really don't take many long trips and I live 3 miles from work!

Locally the only shop that'll help with these is A&A Cycles on 15th. There's a guy named "Mouse" there that knows his stuff. Most of my parts were from ebay, parts-n-more, mikesXs and the Ace Hardware. Good luck to all that are customizing! I encourage you to take lots of pictures and start your own build thread.

I have some work to do to mine now. Clutch is slipping more now so I gotta replace that. Last week I drug the headers one too many times and now I have a nice exhaust leak....so some welding is in order. I still have yet to install my new tail light system. I'm just so busy it's hard to find time to take it apart....any spare time I have I go riding!

Here's some updated pics with the new MikesXS air filters, 35k coils and red 8mm plug wires. And for gunslinger a picture of my fat arse on the bike.

P.S. Everytime I ride another bike, I love my XS11 more. My dad's bike (the white roadstar 1700) is great but the acceleration is not there. Last weekend I rode a modded Honda CBR600 and I hated it. Granted I am in no way the crotch rocket body type, but the thing just had no low end and by the time you're having any fun, you're going way too fast and making enough noise to attrack every po po within a 5 mile radius. I know that 600 will dust my bike, but mine still "feels" faster. I'm starting to realize why all you crazy people keep these bikes on the road!

Bump...Super Old Thread Bump!

I've gotten several emails from people on Youtube asking about the build so I am shamelessly bumping this old thread to make it easier to find.

To those who know me, I was able to get a new bike without selling mine!!! I'm so happy I get a different ride and get to keep my beloved XS11.

Last week I picked up a Yamaha Warrior off Craigslist for $4,000. I love the thing! It lives up to the hype about handling, braking and GOING. Man it pulls hard! Anyway sorry for the bump but it's easier to tell them where to look for the build thread. Maybe some newbees on here who haven't seen it yet either.
