Thanks for the pat on the back. I will be riding it in 3 weeks....7000 miles from OK to OR and back. We'll be riding to hook up with Ray and others in Tahoe then on up to the Oregon coast.

Andrew - I'm not sure we really know exactly what we're doing. We are indeed having fun but a lot of times when you try something it doesn't always work as planned. The reason I like utilizing a dyno is it yields tangible ...measurable...results. One can talk all day long about whopping increases in torque and 120 hp Elevens but until one can prove it ....it's really nothing more than hot exhaust.

The old addage "Horsepower cost money. How fast can you afford to go?" is an enduring truth. To get one of these old bikes to make 85 hp at the rear wheel is not an expensive proposition. Beyond that the relationship between gains in power and losses to one's wallet becomes exponential.

      Sorry to hijack but,
      Hammerhead1st- Nice Quote-
It is across from SUNY Maritime College. It is East by NE of the Throgs Neck with SUNY being NW of the bridge. You can see SUNY from my campus. IT is on Kings Point just North of Great Neck.

      Back on topic though,
I was wondering for all you exhaust gurus, When you change the number of plates, does it also change the theoretical exhaust length? I know that plays an important part in tuning but I am not sure how much it will affect it. This is something I would like to try Eventually. Do you have fuel economy changes yet? I guess you will see on your next trip.
Maximan- I know that feeling, some of my best creations happened because of questions like "What would happen if I put this here..." Usually I don't have a clue what I am creating and sometimes the results are surprising.
BTW- I just noticed that the photo was taken during INDOC a few weeks ago. I am probably on that Schooner.

Maximan - I live in Portland, OR and would love to hook up with you guys on the Oregon Coast later this summer. Get a hold of me a let me know your plans. If a fellow XS'er is ever in Portland, they always have a place to stay at my place. Have a great ride!

Sells, I'm disappointed in you and your comment, didn't realise you might be a bit of a prat too, seems some peoples true colors are really begining to show around here aye? But maxxy would have loved his pat on the back all the same, being the toady he is, but obviously you guys are hangin' out to see what figures my own souped up XS (kiwi style) is putting out. Now I know most of you think NZ is a dinky little island full of uneducated hicks, and the nearest dyno will always be 'just up the road somewhere' but the nearest dyno from me according to that list - is a 5 -6 hour trip, and dynos here are used for tuning motors, not for showing off peak h.p. figures to inflate your own egos!

Saying that though, I'm as interested as you lot to actually see what my numbers really are, the big difference between me and you is it's only a curiosity thing, not the 'blow-ass' agendas I see here. Sells and Max have both probably swiftly signed off now, but here's the run-down on my own bike for anyone vaguely interested.

The motor is 78E with 80' valves, the pistons are wiseco 1196 and the head has been ported by CSL cams, a professional engine mod business that specializes in street mods right thru to full-on race mods. Cost me over 600 bucks just for the port job, and that was a few years ago now.

Also, you're looking at a genuine performance 4-1 matched with the usual K&N filter and recently matched with a set of modern keihin 36mm carbs, and I'm not talking clunky 70's designed BS carbs either. I've deliberately stayed away from flatslide/smoothbore models, as my XS is first and foremost a roadbike.

So far I've stayed away from hot cams and modified valve train, because if you do one then you should be doing both, simply slamming in reground cams ain't gonna do a lot, and you're treading the line of losing street tractability. There's also a pair of dynacoils and a beefed up clutch, extra plate style. Also a chain drive, not to mention brake and handling mods which are important for an eleven.

What the rear tyre horsepower is - is anyones guess, but I've ridden plenty of powerful bikes and I know there's over 100 hp there easily, but sorry, don't hold your breath for a dyno printout from me - but one day maybe. Till then keep ya snaky remarks to yourselves and you'll find won't get any problems from me..

Can't we all just get along?

            Geez,

Stop following a thread(because I wasn't necessarily interested in doing this kind of mod), and it goes to SH!T!

Regrettably, PGGG looks to have misread the dyno report! It was a bit difficult to follow), but he thought the HP and TORQUE curves crossed at ~5k when they actually crossed at 7.5K.

But then Max, you let your temper get to you and started calling names! Then it escalated from there!

Come on guys, this is the tech discussion area, where "WE" hopefully can talk CIVIL TONED about mods, results, etc.. Yes, we can have opinions, but just that. IF you think someone is wrong, then just "try" to point out the facts and faults in their logic, but don't resort to belittling comments on character!

You guys are both knowledgable in squeezing out the type of performance that YOU WANT and have differing views on how to do that, and what you think is performance! Let's leave it at that, shall we!

              TC...the ever level headed moderator.

              Okay...I'll cool it.

I still for the life of me can not figure out why Patrick blasts damn near everyone. Yet no one does same to him.

              I didn't start this crap...but I certainly don't mind finishing it.

What I am weary of is sharing what little bit of knowledge I am gaining about this bike ...only to have some one like pggg piss on the information I've shared.

I challenge you or anyone else to find a thread that Patty posted...that I went into and belittled what he was doing...calling it bogus...or BS...or unacceptable. Then pggg has the unmitigated audacity to say something as ignorant (or careless...whatever the case) as "The curves don't cross at 5250 rpm..." Where did he learn to read a graph?

I would say I will quit posting to this thread. But that is not fair to everyone else that is following this thread trying to learn from the mistakes I've made and successes I've had rebuilding Zilla. I still plan on installing the Legends air filters after I get back from Tahoe/Oregon in September.

Until then I bid you all farewell...at this thread.

And TC...If you can please do us all a favor and just lock pggg from posting to any of my performance threads. He obviously has a problem with them.

You're welcome do likewise for me XSept it would be futile since I NEVER POST IN pggg threads anyway because I couldn't care less what the hell he's doing.

              Peace...I'm outta here.

I've never been into calling people names, but I've been giving the self-important mouthy one some of his own medicine back - and, surprise surprise, he didn't like it! A typical response from someone who's led a sheltered life, call on the 'officials' to save his butt, and ban me from posting! Now I don't claim to be 'Mr perfect popularity' and who does? And anyway that's a pretty boring tag to have on the internet - life goes on, get over it! My final ever message to 'Mouthy Max' and any of his cronies - poke ya sticky beak in and pick a fight with me again and you'll get whatever ya throw at me shoveled straight back down ya throat - with bells on! Truce and Sayonara!!

                  Great!

                  Now back on topic.

The really cool thing about these SuperTrapp cores are they'll fit just about any 4" (actually 3.75) megaphone(s). And they really aren't all that expensive. Just call SuperTrapp in Cleveland, OH and tell 'em what length you need. If they don't make the exact length then you can do what I did. Buy the next longer size and cut it to length.

These cores fit my Jardine megaphones AND my MAC 4-1 megaphone flawlessly. And Since MAC and Jardine still make a 4-1 Meg...if one couples one of these fine headers with the Supertrapp core system and diffuser one could essentially have a Supertrapp pipe even though Supertrapp quit making their pipe for an Eleven years ago.

The MAC and Jardine pipes may not flow lexactly like the original Supertrapp...but apparently in this case (dual megaphone setup) it it wasn't that critical.
