  • SuperTrickk Exhaust

I have finished the installation of my hybrid exhaust system. I dubbed it SuperTrickk because it incorporates the venerable Supertrapp core system n a Dual Megaphone Jardine Spaghetti pipe.

The 'ol black 4-1 header with the carbon fiber R1 can performed well but like Dan Hodges said..."It looks like a stove pipe!"

He was right. I did look kinda funky. And considering the small fortune I had tied up in this bike is simply did not make sense to go third rate on the exhaust.

So I set out on a quest for a pristine Jardine Spaghetti pipe with dual megaphones. These are exceptionally hard to find because Jardine quit making them years ago. I saw one NOS on ebay a few months ago but forgot about it and the auction ended with me not getting to bid. No matter...it went for a whopping $550.

The closest I found was a good used one When I drove to Chi-town to pick up my 79 F I went 90 miles north to Sheboygan and got a nice used one.

The header pipes were in good shape but I had to re-chrome the megs. I knew the stock baffles in this Jardine would not flow enough for Zillas big bore as GNEPIG found that out on his dua meg setup and went with a straight flow through V&H baffle.

I consulted with our resident real guru Dan Hodges (the only guru with less than 200 posts) and got a grea idea from him. He told me Supertrapp would sell their cores and diffuser caps They would fit this megaphone. So I called Supertrapp and got the order placed for two 4" cores and two 4" diffusers with a bunch of plates.

    Here's the cores.

They have a 2" OD and a 4" ID. They fit perfectly inside the Jardine meg. I had to trim about 2" off the end of the baffle but they worked well.

These cores are about $40 each and a wrapped in ceramic fiber. The caps were about $40 each and came with 12 plates but I had to order 24 more plates to get the diffuse past the end of the pipe sufficiently for flow.

Here' shots of the system mounted:

The exhaust is performing very well. The addition of this system gave me much more low and mid range torque. This is a huge benefit for an Eleven that tips the scales at almost 700 lbs nude. The butt dyno tells me I lost a little on top but it's not significant. Once I get it tuned I will likely put it on the dyno just to see. I'm guessing my top HP dropped from 94 at the rear wheel to around 90 or 91. But the torque has certainly gained everywhere most notably from 2500 to 6000.

And last but not least the system is far and away more pleasing to the eye...at least for me.

    Stay tuned...I'll be reporting back.

Nude is a mis-nomer. I meant to say Zilla tips the scales at almost 700 lbs unloaded.

Damn, that looks really great! It's interesting to have an option for the megaphones. I have a decent set of getti pipes (got them for $175 ) and a set of jardine turnouts I want to mate to them eventually.

If that proves to be too much of a pain, I may just do that to the megaphones I have.

BADD...in a good sort of way. If you've ever heard the getti pipes wih the stock baffles...the lower the pitch about an octave or more. Still they are fairly quite with the diffuser caps. But take them off and it roars.

Thats why I never took your sugestion about putting one on the hot rod , did not want to knock such an other wise really cool bike. I have one set of OEM pipes that are in "restorable" condition. Been wondering what I'd have to do to em to keep from strangling the motor but not so F'en loud as it is now.

              Mike

Thanks for being "sensitive" to my feelings...

I couldn't agree more. The old stove pipe performed well but wasn't real sharp This dual chrome meg setup is mcuh more becoming of the old supercruiser.

And the 2" straight through baffles from SuperTrapp will fit any 4" (actually 3.75) megaphone. The diffuser caps really tone it down but they still flow sufficiently.

Mike I hope you can find time to ride over to Tahoe first of September. I really would like to meet you.

The idea of installing SuperTrapp cores was indeed a great idea and credit goes to Dan Hodges. As a matter of fact...the sansei of Dojo Eleven will be here ina few days to help me tune Zilla to the nines!

Maximan, you have a great looking bike.

I had a set of spaghettis a few years back after my OEM pipes rotted out. They were a very good exhaust system and I got good service from them.

                  Mike thanks.

These spaghetti pipes are getting rare as hens teeth. I am constantly on the look for a nice set as they rarely pop up any more.

Once I got these cleaned I coated the inside of the headers with 1200* ceramic paint. That should help in preventing them to discolor.

That's some Nice looking handy work you have done there !!! Looks nice on your very good looking bike as well. Great job. Question for you about your steering damper. i will be adding one to my hop up bike and wanted to know what the best placement would be for it. i want to wield on the mount points when I get the frame done. Well one of these fit from frame to underside of triple tree or does it have to be up where yours is mounted?

Yes I've seen them mounted that way. As a matter of fact this Gixxer 1000 damper I have was originally mounted that way. But I couldn't do it on this full dresser because the fairing hadn't enough clearance. So Mounted it with a fork clamp below the fairing and welded a mount point to the fairing frame.

Actually I put the same damper (Gsxr 1000 damper) on my ZRX1200R. It is mounted to the neck of the frame below and behind the steering head bearings...and to the right fork via clamp. I bought a kit from a ZRXOA member that was made to adapt a Gixxer damper to the ZRX. I spent about $100 on teh kit and $25 for a used damper off ebay.

Compare that to a Scott top side dialable damper for $400 and you got yourself a real bargain.

Dayyum Cody-man, that looks smoken HOT buddy! I think you have found the look.
I wonder if you added some washers/spacers under that stack of plates, if it would flow more and still have a civil tone? Or maybe some small washers between some of the plates to space them out and relieve some back pressure?

I have the supertrapp header and had to flip two plates backward to get the bike from popping from the exhaust. You really can't tell by first look and it does space the diffusers out farther.

                            Gene

Yeah Dan Hodges really hit a home run here. The idea to couple the Supertrapp core to a spaghetti megaphone pipe was SUPERB!

After I get the carbs dialed into the new SuperTrikk exhaust I will put it on the dyno to see exactly what I gained/lost.

Right now I can't feel much loss on top but got a big kick in the low to mid range torque. I think Supertrapp told me that 17 plates will flow almost as much as the open ended baffle on a 4-1 setup.

Each of these megs has 24 plates. But 12 of them are buried in the megaphone. So the first 12 act as the washers you suggested. 12 are exposed. But remember I have twelve exposed on each side (2 megaphones).

I think I have ample surface area to facilitate exhaust flow. But by mid next week we'll know for sure. All I know is I love the torque this thing has picked up. It is very useful for this big heavy bike.

If ya get a chance call me and we'll talk.
