Oh, I'm definately a ONE! I take it nice and easy on this poor old beast, and have yet to get past 3500 rpm's. I see others at the rallies taking off, but I just like to cruise at the back of the pack and sight-see. Those guys will pay for their recklessness.

I also stay out of the fast lane on the freeways. Sometimes a Cooper Mini gets up behind me and stresses me out.. wanting to push me above the posted speed limits. He can just sit there until I get a proper opening to scoot over and slow down to five mph under the limit to be safe. I would also wave courtiously at him as he goes by, but I wouldn't want to remove either hand unsafely from the handlebars.

Everyone talks of carbon buildup, but I like to take inspiration from the little old blue haired ladies that still have the old 1980 Chevy Caprices with original tires cruising down the road. If those 15 people behind her hadn't waited so long to leave, then they wouldn't be in a hurry. Maybe next time they will learn! There's a reason why people want to buy those cars "Driven by a little old lady to and from church on Sunday". That's what I want them to say about my bike when I'm gone and it's for sale.

All this talk of 145 and 165 mph speedos.. PLEASE! I'm looking for one that's a 45mph! There's no way I need those other 40mph on there. And the tach... might as well scrub those numbers off after 4, because THAT is my redline!

Now... everyone please excuse me while I open the doors to drain off some of this BS!! Be careful as I walk past... my nose has grown tremendously!! lol.

Number 3, come in number three, your time is up

Depends a tiny bit on which of the 11's I am riding, but they both thrive on the wrist-twister.

Love to use the power whenever possible.

Clearing the gap at the lights
the squeek of rubber on the white painted lines
stepping out on my favourite corners
      Down one and overtaking

I'm really lazy so I like to keep my upshifts all together for minimal effort.

wen i first got the bike it was definately 3,
but without realizing i had a faulty tacho,
was working but not showing true rpm,
i was soon over revving the engine and have worn the
rings out, so im probably more towards 2 now,
tho i still cant help myself and run it 2 red line
i luv that power band. :-)

            There's a redline?

The only time I've ever hit and exceeded the redline is when I miss 2nd gear and twist it hard while I'm in neutral!

Seriously though, I've never had to hit the redline while riding. I'll get it up to 7k or so if I'm really getting on it and that's plenty!

              Who necroed the thread?

I didn't realize it until mro pointed it out. A five year old thread revived?

Anyhow, this is my first bike and I'm a novice rider. When I first started out I was naturally a cautious rider. But I was amazed by the feeling that the bike seemed to want to go faster, that it needed to, that I was holding her back. As my skills improved I've been able to let her stretch her legs a bit, but I still get the feeling that I'm only scratching the surface as to what this bike could do.

                Interesting thread .
I'm new to riding after about 30 years previous trail riding...
So hope I get out of the 3 part of the combo .

One stretch of road there are no driveways , just trees .
So thats my see what this thing will do road , a few days ago
I opened it up 8500 shifts . In fifth around 75MPH I go over a big dip in the road . Ah , the front wheel raised . So throttled down .
A split second later as throttling down , it revvs up .
Holy crap I jumped the road , scary but exillerating (DUMB).
lucky the front wheel did not go real high , I had it cranking...

I know a good spot to take flying lessons now ....
Normally you ride over that drop ....

So , think a low two will be good for now . I want to know how fast it will go on the interstate ...

A lot of nice 1 riding areas around here too !!

                Later

With the F I will shift at 8500-9000 rpm when going for it.
When on the turbo I shift at 9500 when going for it.
On the Special at 7500 max because I am never going for it on that one, that's my cruiser

in my younger years i was a 3

but now that i'm older and wiser, i'm a 2

but there is nothing like the first 3 gears at 8000 rpm
                      the rush is amazing
but after that time to back her down
mostly common sense and fines that hold me back

and usually when i'm showing a friend how good it accelerates
and i'm wound thru 3rd going for 4th, there is usually some screaming coming from directly behind me.
of course i let them peer over my shoulder and watch the speedo

I say only occasionally because I need my license to make a living. Red line much past 2nd gear and your looking for a ticket unles your on the freeway. I do however take her to the red line, and above as long as she's still pulling, at least a few times a week.

                          I ride like a timid old man - - -

                          - - - but then, I AM a timid old man.
But the sidecar keeps me safe. The bike lugs below 3,000 rpm and I shift up at between 5,000 & 6,000. Speed limit on the highway seems to be mebbe 5,200 in top gear but the engine has a happier life on an upgrade (remember the sidecar?) doing mebbe 6,000 in 4th.

                            WHOA

I'm sorta breaking it in (or its breaking me in) so I'm slowly getting up there . My clutch slips too in high gear if I crank on it . Occasionally I pass a car and look down and see I'm going 100mph whatever that works out to . At that point I say WHOA and slow down , but its fun .

AS far as myself: I am 18, what do you expect? Suprisingly it really depends on what bike I am riding. On the SF, 3 is how most of my driving is. That is partly because the clutch and tire were needing replacement before it ended up in my garage. On my 80G, I know it has the power and I am more of a 2 on it. I don't need to test it every day.
