Follow the wires and clean all contact points,wire connectors, fuse holders, etc.!!

Yes I will be doing that before I question my new coils. I will confirm the voltage at the coils on the red/white and will trace and check other connections. the fuse box is new and I already ran new wires for the gray and orange from the TCI to the coils a while back.
Rob
OK tested voltage at the TCI and coils. All tests done between colored wires and ground with balast resister in place and main switch in the on position. Frame was used for ground.
AT THE TCI BOX:
GREY = 11 V
WHITE /RED = 11 V.
BLACK / WHITE = 6.5 V.
ORANGE = 11 V.
RED / YELLOW = 0 V.
RED / WHITE = 11 V.
AT THE COILS:
GREY = 11 V.
ORANGE = 11 V.
RED / WHITE = 11 V.
Well the end of the rope is very close for me now and there is NO knot to hang from. The wiring from the pickup block to the TCI pickup input is GOOD. ZERO Resistance across the board.
I can't post coil results because I don't think I am using the meter properly but got the same results from the stock coils.
I AM NOW OFFICIALLY AT A LOSS with is machine :-(
Rob
I guess I will start FRESH tomorrow morning by installing 4 new plugs and the stock coils. If the stock coils do not correct the issue I will have to see the TCI box as being at fault.

Did you confirm those readings while someone was tugging and pulling at the wires. Remember, when those wires go flakey, the insulation will often keep the broken ends pulled together until things flex enough to break the contact again. I'm still not betting on electrical, but if we're barking up this tree, may as well verify this.
OF course, you could throw that sucker into the back of a truck and drive it out here to BC. We'll get you running in time to join the rally next week!
At this point I am very sure it is electrical because the issue moved with the plug wire switch off. It would appear that only 12 of each coil is working. I would LOVE to be able to give the bike to someone who could return it to me with this issue corrected. No I did not tug on the wires while running the test. I will reinstall the stock coils tomorrow morning and see what I got. I just have difficulty thinking that with all the parts being NEW accept the TCI box that it could not be the issue. I know that things that are new can be defective but everything appears to be OK with the new stuff. So the next question is ... dose anyone sell these boxes reconditioned? If not what type of shop or business could confirm the components on the boards?
Rob
I repair these TCI's more frequently than I'd care to admit. From the posts you've written I don't believe that your TCI is bad. I think, as I have written previously, that you have a plug wire or plug fouling problem.
I'm pleased that you've finally decided to get a new set of plugs. That should reveal a lot. Or, at least remove one more variable from the equation!
I really don't think the issue is a fowled plug / plugs or high tension leads. I think this because the issue moved when I did the 1-4 & 2-3 plug wire switch off. I do however have new plugs to put in the bike. The test was carried out using new one peice auto high tension wires.
By chance a friend dropped by last night. He was up until about 4 years ago working for a large Canadian electronic component manufacturer. His job was to test components until they failed and discover why they failed.
I asked him if he would take a look at my TCI box and we had a chat about my bikes current issue.
He told me that the odds of having 2 black boxes or 2 coils fail at the same time or in the same way would be like winning the supper 7 lottery. He is very confident that this issue will prove to be dodgy wiring between the components. So this morning I will buy flat terminals and wire and run a bypass harness between the components and see what I got.
Keep your fingers crossed and I will let you know what the outcome is later today.

Let me see if I am on the same page. You had a miss. You swapped the plug wires from one cylinder to the other and the problem followed. You used 1 new length of plug wire. Did you do the old coil new wire update? If not how did you connect the new plug wire? Am I on the same page or am I missing something?

OK, I see that you are using new coils and you used new automotive high tension wires. So the only thing high tension you did not replace is the caps. Is that so?

The wiring that came with the coils does not make use of removable caps for the plugs. They are boots that crimp right onto the 8MM wires. So there are no caps so to speak. I have just finished wiring everything into place and even filled the gas tank so I will have a smoke (instead of biting my nails) lol lol and give it a go real soon.
Rob
WELL that resulted in a BIG FAT NOTHING. I now have ZERO activity on #1 & 2 and Study on #3 & 4. Maybe the coils are not compatible with this system.
QUESTION. What if I splice BOTH #1 & 4 and #2 & 3 onto the tower that is working? Would this work???
