    Yes please tell us.
With over 30 years with chains and bikes, I've never heard of such a thing.

      Hi John,
sure you have, it's called a toothed belt.

I trust belts enough to ride around the block, but that's about as far as I trust them. Of course with a no-power Hardley they might last longer.
I'll stick with chains and shafts thanks.
Now what is this mysterious permanent sprocket, don't have to lube the chain, coating?

A 14 mm pitch aramid-reinforced Goodyear® Hibrex® belt with Flexten® Plus technology, 2.593:1 (70/27) ratio seems to handle 125 rwhp ok. Plus Brents 150,000+ Harley with the original kevlar belt has me sold on them too. If I had choices, it would be belt, shaft, then chain.

            General Magnaplate in Arlington, TX

They do very high tech plating. I have seen some examples but the various types (names) elude me. They have a website. Do a search you'll get a new understanding of advanced platings even if you don't want to go that way. It is HIGH $$.

I'm guessing that they do a plating similar to what Tod has mentioned doing to the trans gears.

If you have only had shafties and are spoiled by them, or you have not had a chain drive for a long time and you are considering a chain drive again, learn to clean the chain properly.

You know I am sure I might have done something equally stupid in my life somewhere, sometime....but nothing comes to mind at the moment. Have to wonder if a little substance of some kind was involved.

I used to know a maintenance man that ran his hand into a vertical saw. NOT once, but twice. He cut off half of three fingers the first time and ran the blade between the fingers up to his wrist (on the other hand) the second time. He wasn't as stupid as the company as they never fired him!! I kept my distance from him>

                          Blue,

Actually they have several types of plating that have potential for advanced anti-wear and friction reduction.
