  • More power!!!!

I keep hearing about the lack of charging power on these XS11's and I was wondering how many of you were seriously interested in more output from the alternator? I have a friend who's business is rebuilding alternators and we have discussed the possibilities and how to increase the output. I'm thinking of doing something about mine and I was wondering how much interest there was in such a modification among the XS's.

        Planedick,

I've toyed with the idea of increasing the number of windings on the field coil, there's enough room there to get 10-15 percent more turns on it. That would boost the output a bit. Just haven't got my hands on a spare alternator to try it out.

                OK, guys.

I PM'ed Diverray and if he sends me a spare field coil, I'll wind it up and test it on Swamp Thing in a couple of weeks. I'll post photos and results here.

                Let's hope this works!

Just what I need, another project

                      More turns...

Just adding more turns won't work. In addition to more turns you also need to increase the wire size or the extra amperage will make the wire too hot and short out. I'm also working on an oil pressure guage, amp guage, and remote idle adjust.

I have an oil pressure gauge on my E. I use the electronic gauge, not the mechanical one (with the plastic hose). I installed a "T" fitting where the stock sender is behind the cylinders. Then I reinstalled the sender for the stock idiot light on one side of the "T" and the sender for the new gauge on the other side. In my case I wired it into the fairing harness so If I run the bike with no fairing I still have the stock light.

                            Guages

I was thinking of making a bracket to mount on top of the instrument group attached with hot melt glue to hold the amp guage and the oil pressure guage, maybe with a light inside them.....
