I'm still around on my flat black XS11. It runs great (Thanks to the folks here) and I ride it from Detroit to Kentucky every year. It's not a purists bike, but it's my bike.

I like your bike Mike...especially the drilled out rims...I have never seen anyone do that before..it may not be a purist's ride but its done tastefully...we have definitely seen alot worse...

It looks like a functioning motorbike to me! It's doing the job! I like it. BTW, the Kentucky trip sounds like a lot of fun.

I remember when I was in high school. We put E skinnies on the front and L50's on the back. Air shocks and blocks kept the fenders off of the tires. We thought the cars looked awesome with the nose pointed down like that, even if they drove like crap and performance suffered. Some things never change.

There are some ugly bikes out there that go like stink. You can bet on that. Thanks for checking in, Mr. Fix!

The Kentucky trip is my sanity saver. 40 or so of us rent a cabin complex in the Red River Gorge area for an extended weekend. Then we ride all over. Beautiful area, tons of fun.

I've been looking at the thread on that other forum, and it does appear to be a blast. We have rallies here, too! I have attended XS East several times and always had a great adventure. XS Southeast has grown into the big one. It has a FB page. Check it out! Your bike looks up to the excursion, for sure! About 14 hours due south will get you there.

There's really no reason for you to go anyplace. There are times when you need to be a bit thick skinned here because we don't all look at this hobby the same way. As far as the "pound sand" comment from madmax-im goes, feel free to get in his face and dish it out to him like some of us like to do. He can take it, and he keeps coming back for more. We're going to help you with your bike, no matter what you decide to do with it. When the customizing disasters turn up on here, the fur is going to fly. For the most part, this group plays well together and our rally gatherings are like family reunions. Stick with it.

                    Look what you did, Ben!

I can respect the "PURIST", I WOULD NOT have a safe bike without the help and knowledge of everyone on here. Ben has not run me off just ruffled my feathers......

Besides my husband would not let my bike go on any "for sale" website, he secretly wants it for himself and I have been looking for another XS11 for him to make his own. He says he would hire me to clean it up as I have done mine. He wants something other then his cruiser and besides he was impressed that the bike could stay neck and neck with his 1800....I would of beat him off the line had I been riding it more then 1 day.

Let Ben be Ben I am a woman in a motorcycle mans world, I have to put up with a lot of crap from others thinking I am a ignorant woman (I do not mean that from Ben's statement) so Ben's comment ruffled the feathers but now that I know his view, I can respect and leave it there, you guys are right you probably have seen countless people hack/chop and move on but you guys are stuck with this stubborn irish girl. I've been married 21 years gotta have thick skin and be able to fling crap back

                              rantings.....

Wow, just stepped into the wrong thread, but i like the abuse.

My wife wrenches on bikes and rides an xs11.

i ride an xj750 seca and we both wrench on it.

i think it's what helps our marrage, kind of a family time minus the kids

the only time i'm not fond of rider modifications, is when they disable safety equipment... as in, remove front rotors and caliphers to "clean up the looks"

this type of changes forces me to stop and say WOW...

you really can't fix stupid, can you?

i ride alot... i see alot of wildlife, usually it likes to run at my front tire.

i have a heathly appreation for good brakes.

i also fully believe in upgrades and if they have estetic improvements then it's a bonus, or if they improve rider comfort (better yet).

Modify and upgrade and make better!!

these machines are capible of competing with the new bikes and will overtake v-twins and many other models.

But we must realise that if we want to go down that road, we must protect ourselves with the newest technology we can install in the saftey systems.
(tires, brakes, crash guards, leathers, armor, helmets)

                              sorry, end of tyraid.

point is, you want to make changes??

Cool, but keep in mind that your life depends on it.

and i know this because i modify everything i touch... sorry i'm terrible that way.

i just can't leave things alone.

i hope that everyone makes the bike they own to be they're own bike.

that way it reacts better to they're style of riding.

                              it's what we do

                              that's what makes us Riders,
any Biker can ride from bar to bar on a custom hardtailed harley with no front brakes.

i'll shut up now and put myself back in the corner where i belong.
                              (i blame cabin fever)

Hmmm.. "Family time" minus the kids for us never involved wrenches or motorcycles. Maybe we were doing it wrong?

Oh, and if you ride a 750 and she rides the XS, does she ever say, "Mine's bigger than yours!" lol.
