  • Bigfoot dumped it.

I don't know how many of you know Harry (Bigfoot) but he went out on a test ride on his bike tonight, getting it ready for a trip with us next week, and thinks the front brake locked up from sitting all winter. He had a low speed.. estimates 15mph... dump with his daughter on back. She got a couple scrapes, but he broke a rib and his leg just below the knee. Surgery tomorrow. Keep him in your prayers. I have no info other than that including the shape of the bike. One of us will try to find out more tomorrow and let you know.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

yeah, I dumped it. Not sure really what happened, but something went wrong in the front end. Took off from a stop, turned onto the road, when to accelerate and the front end just got went out from under me. The brakes had started acting like they were dragging so I had turned around and cut our ride short. I was about 2 blocks from home when it happened. Luckily my daughter was unhurt, just one little spot of road rash on her foot. I just landed hard, ribs on my elbow, sorta like Greg did in NC last year. And I must have had time to put my foot out to try and catch us as I broke my tibia, what they call a tibular plateau fracture. Doc says most likely will need plate and screws. See the surgeon in the morning after more xrays. Haven't seen the bike but my brother in law when and got it for me, took some pics. Damage was very minimal. Small crack in the fairing and a broken turn signal.

Guess it was just my turn.

Sorry to hear you went down. Glad your daughter is alright and that you are good enough to be on here posting!

You and Greg need to take some lesson from Tod on how to crash. He seems to know some secrets as to not get hurt.

Wow sorry for your experience I understand the pain. I've been lucky enough not to knowingly break anything but 2 times have hit in much the same way. Once doing a U turn on fresh wet blacktop when I hit wet leaves and once on pavement covered with pebble gravel trying to stop quick when a guy pulled in front of me. When the front wheel slips its quick and final. After I could breath again it felt like I was grabbed by the feet and slammed against the ground. For me it took more then 2 weeks before all the pain went away. Get well soon
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Thanks Marty. Might be awhile before I am able to ride again, not sure how long it will be but no reason to not expect a full recovery. Doc says I have a Tibial plateau fracture.

Yeah, Harry and I don't have the same amount of "natural" crash padding as Tod.

Take it easy Harry, at least in your line of work you can still stay working somewhat.

Yep. That is ugly. I can see how that's going to keep you off your feet for some time, the motorcycle even more so. Do as the doctors tell you, and perhaps we'll see you in the fall.

                        Bigfoot,
Sorry to hear you had a problem. Hope the doc(s) can get that Tibial Plateau reinforced and on the mend quickly.
Guess you will on restricted activity for 4-5 months and on some crutches for awhile, but hey, by August you will
be our own 'Bionic Bigfoot'. Not quite a full fledged Cyborg but keep it that way because you sure don't want any more bionic parts ..................

Keep us posted on what the doc is doing with those plates & screws. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Hope to see you in September.

Oh man! I'm sorry to hear the news. Thankfully it wasn't worse, and that your daughter was okay. Follow the doc's orders and don't move if he tells you to not move -don't want to risk a reinjury. I think one article I found said that you're not supposed to be active for 12 weeks?!?!? Holy muscle atrophy, batman! I hope you're in the group of fast recovery and not that 3 month deal. Take care of yourself and get better fast.

                              Dang Harry,

Sorry to hear about your spill! Yep, when the front wheel goes out, we go down quick! Glad your daughter wasn't seriously hurt. I remember one cold freezy winter day, rode to work and then back home, pulled into the apartment parking lot...found some black ice in my parking spot and zip/splat, down I went...thankfully I was bundled in my winter suit=padding, fell so fast didn't even have time to try to put my leg out!

Get well quick.....hope you are well enough to make the fall southeast rally, but if not, we'll hoist one for you!
