This one has approximately 8500 miles on it. I put it on just before XS South East last year. You know how I ride.

Is that a nail in the tire?

Tough to tell from the pic, but it doesn't look like there's a lot of tread left.

Ordered a pair of 712s, 100/90 and 130/90 from RMATV on a Tues., on the front porch the next day. $106 for the pair, free delivery. Must have been a sale or something, checked on them again and the same tires were about $20 more ? I like the look but I'll see about the rest.

                Shinko Miracle

Just rode home after mounting my Shinko 712 rear tar at MLew's home and it has transformed the ride characteristics in a big way...all for the better. Immediately notice the difference in handling and high speed corners the bike is rock solid. The unstable nature before has been completely eliminated...my rear shocks are fine. It was the tire all along.
I just love how the Shinko makes the bike handle...now we're rally ready...
Thanks for all your help Mark!!!

Glad to hear that the new tire solved your handling issues.

I have been using the 712's for years and love the way they handle. Bike feels rock solid in all conditions of the road. I do wish they got better mileage but for the price they are real hard to beat.

Right now, I have a Shinko 230 Tour Master on the front. I have never liked the feel of it and will not use another one. It feels like it is badly cupped and get a slight wobble when cornering. Not bad, but you can feel it. It has felt that way since day one with it.

I have a set of 712's sitting here that will be put on before I head to XS SE. I am going to try a 110/90 on the front. Tod and Greg have both been running them and claim to love the bigger tire.

Thanks Harry...If I can get 8000 miles out of a rear Shinko then I'll be more than satisfied since i typically ride the XS much less than my ST1100...so i should be set for a couple years...

                          Hi Bigfoot,
some 110/90s are fatter than others so watch the tire to fender clearance.
My son ran a 110/90 on his XS750 Special and it came effin' close to the fender.
George Stevenson claimed on the Rocket:-
"The fit between piston and cylinder was so close you couldn't get a worn sixpence between them."
Which is real good for an 1830's steam locomotive but not so much for a motorcycle's front tire and fender.

With the Shinko, it'll probbly rub just a smidgen. It generally takes a tiny bit of adjustment with a big screwdriver or such to the inner lip on the fender for it to work, but if you look at a bike with a 100 and another with a 110, the 110 looks twice the size.

Remember how I had to take the fender off at Bob's and grind that lip off in there because it was cutting a groove in the tire?

                                Here's my earlier post:
I just pulled the front wheel off my XS1100. The tire on there is a Metzeler ME880. Sitting nearby is another wheel with a Dunlop GT501 on it. Both tires are serviced with air and both are 100/90-19. The Metzeler looks bigger. If my memory serves, the Dunlop measured less than 97 mm wide. The Metzeler measured more than 105 mm wide. I always knew the tire wouldn't necessarily be 100 mm wide, but almost 10 mm difference is more than I expected to see.
If you bought the Metzeler in a 110, I don't think it would fit. I have an XS650 with a 110 on it. Its width measurement is identical to the 100 Metzeler that I removed. I prefer the 100 tires. I believe they turn in quicker. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

FWIW, I believe a 110 Bridgestone Spitfire might offer a fitment problem as well. The 100 is true to size.
