My wife is great and I love her, but she knows if ever she gave me the ultimatum "its me or the bike" I'd help her pack

Its great that he let you have it, and that you're putting another XS1100 back where it should be, OTR.

Thanks for all the great comments. I am a current rider. I have a Honda Shadow that I cruise around in. I am not an aggressive rider by any means. We have great country and scenic roads where I live so I enjoy the twisties and hills. The XS is a little heavier than I am used to but that shouldn't be a problem.

I hope to have the bike done by the spring. I guess it just depends on finances. I have a new fuseblock to install. Topcat I believe I bought one from you a couple of months ago. I also have an original air box that I will be using rather than the cheap pods.

My wife isn't to thrilled about motorcycles but she likes that I have a hobby as long as it doesn't cost too much money and the parts aren't in our living room. So I simply don't tell her how much it costs and I moved the parts to the family room. All is well

I would love to make that run this spring. Do you know the dates. Perhaps I can make that my goal. I believe the Crud Run begins less than two miles from my place.

That sounds like a great plan. I'll give you the link for the Slimey Crud Run dates. I'm about 7 miles away from the starting point, just inside the beltline.

It's the 1st Sunday of May and October, so it looks like for 2013, it's....

Did you buy marine vinyl for your seat yet? My $0.02 is to glue all the foam pieces together, add a layer of batting, then go ahead and put together a vinyl cover to fit. Does the misses have a sewing machine that you can use?

Just to add a further tip if you are going to recover the seat yourself. Use a heat gun when stretching the vinyl. It fits better when it's heated.

Looks like another XS found a good home! Yer doing a helluva job so far. Keep up the good work and keep posting progress reports and pics, por favor hombre.

A flap disc on an angle grinder will do a great job of smoothing out the foam, followed by a little hand sanding and it'll look a lot better. Don't give up on it yet. Like CRX says, a little batting will work wonders.

I thought I would post what the engine looks like now. I currently have it on a stand in my garage. Thanks to a thread I found on this site called (lo- buck Engine Stand) I was able to make brackets and modify a car engine stand. I am going to take the top off the engine and adjust the valves. I am also planing on painting it black.

Today I picked up my exhaust pipes and headers from the ceramic coater. They look awesome. The guy used Cerakote Black Velvet. Apperently that stuff comes in an air dry formula. They sure look good. I just took some pics, however the pics don't really show how pretty they really are. The pipes were still cold from being out in my car so they look kind of gray in the photos. Anyhow, I can't wait to start to put this thing together. I hope I remember how it goes.

Remember, the pipes are cold and that is why they look gray. They are actually black with a velvet look to them. I am very pleased.

Great pictures and story. I know the OEM fuseblock looks pretty decent, but those GLASS FUSES are a real weak spot, along with the flimsy brass spring clips, and it's really suggested to replace it with the ATCO style fuseblock and fuses. I resell them for COST which just covers the expenses incurred by me getting them and then resending them out,ie paypal, shipping, etc.!

The Pod filters look like the cheap EMGO brand, see the tech tips...MODS, carbs, regarding pod filters and velocity stacks. There was a recent thread regarding same concerns regarding performance with PODS vs. the OEM airbox and such.

Check out the LED conversion tips for turn signals and running/brake lights and such. Our bikes have self cancelling signals, there are ways to preserve that feature with LED signals, some don't bother and just install a 2 prong electronic flasher and just turn the signals off themselves.

Folks will want to see your R6 caliper mod progress! keep up the good work, you'll have a fine ride when you're done for sure.

Also, just have to say you haven't said anything about any prior riding experience?? If it's been years/decades since riding, we recommend taking the MSF course.

Do you know where you saw a thread about LED signals that allows the self canceling feature to work?

Coming along great! As TC mentioned, its a great idea to swap out that fuse box. Mine literally melted down shortly after I ordered but had not yet installed the nice one he sells. its very easy to put in and takes the common spade fuses.

I just added the new fuse box yesterday. I was reading some posts. It looks like catatonicBug replaced his rectifier and regulator. Is that something I should look into?
