    Hi Phil,
I just spoke w/Tod on the phone.
They are in Eureka Springs, and his boys just showed up w/ truck/trailer.
They plan to stay and take it easy this weekend, since the room's paid for.

Looks like some serious buffing for 'ole Max, this time.
Sounds like Ivan's FJR took a lot of damage, too.

Just wanted to let ya know they're ok, though.

Downhill slope + jackazz truck/trailer driver pulling out in front of us+ oily patch in the road = 2 wrecked bikes. Yup.. I washed the front end out, trying to keep the bike off of me while we're both tumbling, then my bike took out Ivan's FJR. Road-rashed and sore, but nothing broken. We weren't even on the brakes that hard.. not like a panic emergency stop or anything. More pics later.. Right now, dinner and many drinks before we quit moving and get all stoved up. lol.

Glad to hear you and Ivan came out it that wreck okay! I must say Tod, you are still one tuff hombre! Can't say as much for me, having that T-bone wreck last June on my ST. My ST didn't survive it well, and was classified by insurance as totaled. Best part, even with metal pieces holding my body together, I am vertical and walking again. Haven't ridden the Venturer as of yet, and just may not risk an ugly outcome doing so. With it all waxed, polished by Roo and Mike(Soccer4m) and bike cover still over it, temptation just hasn't arose yet.

        • Yeah, I wish it was an April fool's thing. The three-point case guard did it's job. (The cover was already rashed from a previous laydown.)

I'm rashed up but my kneecap took the worst of it.

I have a feeling the next couple of days is gonna suck.. lol.

As far as parts, I appreciate the offer, but parts I have. Extra bikes, motors, etc. This motor has a lot of miles on it, but it doesn't seem to be hurt. I may just freshen it up with some new crank bearings and put it in the next one. There were things I wanted to do to this bike and I wouldn't because it was easier to just hop on and ride. Now it looks like I'll take some time and do them now.

                • Glad no one was hurt to badly. I hope the bikes are repairable.

On to what I did to my bike, I took the left side front caliper apart on my XJ and put a new piston in and new seals with new brake pads. Tonight will be the right side and the rear brakes.

My XJ is totalled.. bent the frame up at the triple trees among many other things, and probably Ivan's also, but waiting on adjusters to make it official. Podunk small town Oklahoma has a motorcycle adjuster that can come see it. Wichita Kansas... No motorcycle adjusters. lol. They are going to tow his to a Yamaha dealership and let them figure up the damage.

Sounds like they're going to go after the county for leaving this diesel/oil all over road after patching. It was a lot worse than what the pic shows. The truck at the far end with the backhoe was the one that pulled off the shoulder in front of us.

Oh, and just a word to the wise. Any of you that have American Motorcycle Association for their towing.... Don't ever say you've been in an accident. Just tell them something happened to the bike and you can't get it to roll, like the front brake is locked up or something. They'll only tow for "Break downs". That's $450 I'd like to have back. Because.... My Allstate insurance doesn't have towing either. That one tow was equal to 6 years' worth of insurance. There will be some future changes to my policy... possibly starting with a new company name at the top.

                    • I hit some diesel on the road once in Fort Worth that a firetruck dumped on a corner. It's like hitting ice.

The firemen saw me wreck and came back to make sure I was OK but when I asked what they spilled on the road they got quiet and said they had to go.

Probably could have sued but I was stupid.

I was on my old CX500 Honda.

                      • Tod,
                        Thanks for the AMA headsup.

They just sent me an email saying next month is my automatic renewal for $50.

I'm still steamed at them for how they treated us in Colorado.

I was all set to cancel my policy when I got back, and before I even got home, John called and told me how fast they responded to him when his engine locked up on the Navy bike! So, I didn't cancel. I thought, "Well, we were in a bad place. Give 'em the benefit of the doubt." Now I hear they treated you like this...

It's crap like that... not telling you that they charge full price to tow if you're in an accident... and finding out the hard way!
I've never read that in any of the paperwork they've sent me.

That's even worse than them stalling me on hold for 2 hours, saying they didn't have anyone to send to get your bike while we were in the dark, @ 14,000' in the mountains, 32 degrees in rain that changed to snow.

Sorry to hear they screwed ya like that. Yikes!

                        Don't think I'll re-up.
