BTW, installed a new cam chain on my current project today.
    Chain tool works pretty good.
Black looks fantastic and the polished bowls are a nice contrast. Nice work!!!!!

      • Hey BikerPhil: Thx for the informed suggestion with the headlight relay. I already bypassed it last year so nothing like this would happen. Oh well. I disconnected at the fuse box the orignal power wire there & hooked in the auxilary power (still 10 Amps) and ran a new wire with a switch to the headlight - only low beam now but at least it works. I then painted the headers with high heat paint with a brush. I plan to keep this bike a long time so I think this winter as a project & further peace of mind. I may just go thru the whole electrical sys & replace all the wires etc. So no more 30 yr old brittle wire to break, hopefully. - Dan

            • Pulled the head off the 80G. Had lost compression on #3. Found Exhaust valve not seating as it looked warped. I suspect it ran a bit lean it that cylinder by the looks of it. Replaced the valve, lapped them all and they are all seating. Getting ready to do a bench valve adjust before re-installing it.

Got the Venturer back together and on the road after getting a replacement head, doing a valve job and re-installing it and re-setting float heights, adjusting carbs and syncing them. Runs pretty good.. Put 75 miles on it this weekend in between wrenching.

                • Installed 850 FD in the XJ. Filled up w/ gas in Stillwater. Rode home to Skiatook. 82 mile trip. Refilled tank. 2.0 gals. for 82 miles! I'll take that stellar 41 mpg... thank you!

I love this mod. I saw a 700 rpm reduction on the highway. Another mod that is already on it's way to paying for itself!

Worked out just like all the threads said. Piece of cake!

Gave the XJ a totally new attitude. Since it's a full dresser, and I use it mainly on trips and highway, this is the best way to make a great cruiser out of the 11!

My average speed was 70 mph. 3500 rpm!
Odometer reading at the time of install: 35,218 miles.
I'll report back later down the road as the miles rack up how it holds up.
Thanks to XSChop & Cody! Thanks, Cody for all your help today!

                    Hi Garth,
if you'd been stuck in one place for 30 years you wouldn't want to move either.
                    And yeah, garages rule.
But I have learned from bitter experience that if you don't put everything away when you stop some of it WILL have gone missing when you start again.
BTW, what pegs do you need?

Gawd! Howd'ya manage to do that?
If you need salvage advice perhaps start a new string and gather all manner of self-perceived wisdom from several poor saps with long wrenches and no time to wait for the penetrating oil to work.

                              • hopefully fixed a couple minor oil leaks, the stupid Cam chain tensioner and the galley plug on the right side. Oh, and cleaned the "vent" hole in my venture tank so I could quit riding around with the lid open.
