I am disappointed to have to post that the worming medication did not agree with Pearls and he is now at the vets and will have to stay overnight on intervenes fluids. They are not sure what's wrong with him but he's not looking good. It may be simple dehydration or low sugar from having diarrhea or something that is still unknown. He will ether spring back as quick as he got sick or will pass away overnight :-( :-(

        Rob,

We are sorry to hear about your kitty being sick. Did the Vet check him for Feline Leukemia? I can't remember right off the top of my head how old they have to be or if there is even a minimum age.

I know it is sad but there is something that Deb has seen that you could call a "Wasting kitten" syndrome. It seems they get one once in a while that just seems to fade no matter what they try.

Hope by the time you read this "Pearls" is better.

I am sorry to say that Pearls did not improve over night and the fluids he was given were pooling in his abdomen. The vets best guess is that he has a perforated intestine and is too small for a major surgery of that sort. It was likely ether a preexisting condition or the intestine was ruptured by the passing of a very large volume of worms. We are so saddened and disappointed by this outcome :-( :-( :-(

Thanks WildKat. It was a tough night after putting so much effort into trying to save him. My Daughter, who is very sensitive and wanted another cat for some time now, cried herself to sleep.

Deb and I are sorry to hear of the kitten. The weakness Pearls had may have been congenital.

It is a cruel thing that we attach ourselves to creatures that don't have our life span. I guess it is natures way of making us see the cycle of the world in an accelerated time frame.

There are many abandoned pets out there that will melt your daughters heart (and yours)..

Now that the passing of Pearls is behind her Amanda has gone forward with a replacement kitten. She has decided to get a Savannah Kitten from a local breeder. The kitten is a week and a few days old now and She will receive the the little girl right around Christmas.

That will be pretty good medicine for the broken hearts in your home. Check with your vet on vaccination ages and intervals. Breeders typically start to vaccinate too early to be of any good to the kittens.

Congratulations, good luck and Merry Christmas!

Amanda is very excited about receiving this kitten when she is ready to go. She will come complete with micro chip, crate, blanket, shots, wormed, registered, and with a health guarantee. With a life span of about 17 years she will be around for a while :-)

Man-O-Man ... that kitty has a serious set of paws and looks like it just stepped out of the jungle.
                          Amazing markings.

Yeah, she does have big paws eh. She will grow to between 13 and 20 pounds but 15 to 17 is more likely as an F5 kitten. The markings are awesome for sure. Body shape is also somewhat different then typical domestic cats which adds to the "out of the jungle" appearance when they grow up. These Savannah cats are pretty new in the cat world. Earlier litters like F1 and F2 can reach 25 to 30 pounds with one recorded at 40 pounds!!! Those are way out of my budget to say the least. Can you imagine having a wild looking cat like this that weights 30 pounds wondering around the house??? I have seen them at 20 and 25 pounds and they are rather large for their weight. they tend to be tall and slender so even at 25 pounds they can stand 18 inches tall.
