If I can make at least one person smile, or pee their pants a little, or maybe spit out their drink; then my day is not wasted.
Every now and then I consider getting a cat, mostly to save the dogs. Man needs something to kick around when he gets frustrated and with all these 241-kids numbers, and shelters for women, well, you got to find some substitute.
(yes it is a joke, I would never kick my wife, kids, or dogs. Cats......well...There is a reason I do NOT own one)

If you've never been close to a cat, then you just don't know. I was never a cat person. More of a dog person but over the years we have accumulated a few of the flea-bitten hairballs and I have become quite attached to each and everyone of them. It's amazing how much personality each one has and how different they are from one another. I never picked up on it before until I became close to them. I used to think, cat? eh...ok....meow....so what. They are quite intelligent and we don't pick up on it very often because their expressions/emotions are usually so subtle. I can tell when any one of them are happy, sad, angry, sick, jealous, etc. It took me time to pick up on their emotions and when I started to recognize them I was amazed. So, yeah, I can understand some people not liking them, not their cup of tea, and not understanding them. JAT
There is never a dull moment around our house anymore unless they are all asleep. Then I'm watching stupid cat videos on YOUTUBE!!! Crazy Water Cat
I can tell when any one of them are happy, sad, angry, sick, jealous, etc.
The thing for me is that I don't WANT a pet that is capable of such a broad range of emotions! Excited to see me, hungry, tired, anxious for the next time my hand meets it fur - That's about all the emotion I need from a pet.

Isn't that why some people spell it catsup instead of ketchup?
I just don't understand the whole cat thing. I've never really been around them. My mother-in-law has a few of them but they all hide whenever I go over to mom-mom's house. They won't even come to my kids.
Why is it that cats have to take a dump INSIDE the house in a box?? I'm sure that if I took a steamer in a box in anybody's house, I wouldn't be invited back.
Cats are totally alien to me. I never "got" them and never care to in the future.

LMAO. Because we let them I guess.

The voices in my head are giving me the silent treatment.
Well, SWMBO and I are cat people. (Also have a dog, long story.) Over the last 6 years we have done cat rescue and fostering for a couple local shelters, to the tune of 16 liters of kittens. Currently down to 2 fosters, you will find them on PetFinders.com. We have 4 cats that we call ours, and another half-dozen or so that take refuge in my garage. SWMBO keeps a cat box out there, along with food and water. I wouldn't mind so much but they particularly like the seats on my 2 bikes to sleep on; I have to remove the cat hair before I ride. That led to seat covers....
Cats can be a PITA; we had to child-proof the house again to keep them out of cabinets. The TP in the bathroom is hidden behind a door beneath the sink; nothing like comming home to a full roll of TP that the cat has unrolled and clawed into little bitty pieces! (We do not declaw our cats.) On the other hand, nothing like a cat plopping into your lap and start purring away with only a few strokes of you hand. And, they can take care of themselves for a few days if you want to take off for a weekend.
You really need to have 2 cats so they can play with each other. Cats can live singly - a few really prefer it that way - but they are social animals at heart and will thrive if they have like company. Get your kitten a companion; your kitten will do better, have more fun, and you will get a lot of hoots and hollers watching the 2 of them play from kittenhood into and through adulthood.
One of the all-time best cat books is The Cat Who Came For Christmas, a story of a single guy who helped a friend rescue a cat and ended up keeping it. Here is a brief synopsis:
"Cleveland Amory, a writer, animal rescuer, and the founder of Fund for Animals, tells the story of his cat, a stray he had named Polar Bear. It was on a snowy Christmas night that another animal rescuer took Mr. Amory to the building where this sick, starved, and abused cat had found its refuge. The owner of the building had given orders to get rid of the cat, so the poor fellow's time was running up.
Mr. Amory rescued the cat (who did not know he was being rescued and therefore scratched him bad in the face). Having never owned a cat before, Amory did not plan to keep this one. He brought the stray to his apartment and immediately started looking for a home for him. However, the cat captured his heart. Having soon realized that Mr. Amory was not going to hurt him, the cat instantly changed from a violent hisser and scratcher to a calm, trusting fellow. He even allowed Mr. Amory to wash him, after which it was discovered that the cat was all white. When a woman came to take him, Mr. Amory knew he no longer wanted to give this beautiful cat away.
The book goes on to describe Polar Bear's personality, his relationship with his owner and other people, his tricks, and how his entrance into Mr. Amory's life changed it. We also get to read about some other animals, rescue stories, and Mr. Amory's work of a rescuer."

We had two cats... but found out quickly that it was simply preparation for having twins... We never knew which one was responsible...
for this...

Cats can live singly
Now ours does...
After chasing off her sister (who actually went bonkers after losing her feline boyfriend, Tom - now there's an odd story) she now blames the toilet paper shreds on the kids...

I haven't even clicked on the link yet, but I can't get the chrous of that song outta my head already! My mom was a preschool teacher while I was growing up, and that song was standard faire!
ya just can't beat the Muppets.
Too bad we lost Henson at such a young age...
I totally agree... I have always said that if I could ever have lunch with one person, past or present, Henson would be my choice. Even though his son picked up the reigns, Kermit will never be the same without Jim.

Well ... The trip to the vet revealed that She is a HE LOL LOL ... His "gifts" are just beginning to appear because he is by the vets best guess, only 4 to 5 weeks old and I have had him here for close to a week. No wonder he needed the bottle when I found him. Anyway, the vet says no ear mites, no flees but does have round worms which is not uncommon. He's a little on the light side at 1.46 pounds and is too young for any shots so back to isolation for him. Vet says he looks good and should be OK... I'll see to it one way or another :-)
On a different and not so nice note, the lady who dropped off the other 2 that we found at the humane called to see how they were doing, and was told that they had been put down as "wild cats" :-( She was very upset and I am angry. They said they would not put them down and if I had known they might, I would have saved them myself, tamed them and found good homes for them. It took all of 48 hours to save this one and of my own time .. perhaps a total of 5 hours. I will never give them any donations ever again and will never turn over any animal to them again.
