What makes ME curious.. is why that S.O.B. doesn't have a beer gut like the rest of us!

When he chips in on the keg AND volunteers his time to help, we don't question his tap trips.

Well, somebody had to do it since I couldn't be there.

I really do appreciate being "Overhauled". It is tough to see her in parts. I too am surprised at how well the frame held up, being hit that hard. According to the police report, I was thrown much farther than I thought. The placed the impact point farther back than I had figured, and it threw me in the range of 120 feet, and the policeman I spoke to said that was probably about a 65mph collision. So that frame, by all rights should have looked much worse. Just another testament to excellent engineering, and the glory that is the XS11. No other bike is deserving of the friends I have made wile riding it, and here on this site.

I'd tell you guys to put a rear shock absorbing bumper on it, but then Lee would be wanting to ride it all the time while wearing his do-rag with a chin strap.

Re the overhaul:My brother in law is/was a boilermaker. He had a biz card that said, "When you're the best, it's not bragging."

Awesome work. Wish I was there to help(with the beer).

Get better quick Ivan, or they gonna be riding that bike all over the place for you.

Really wish I was in more of a position to help out, and physically participate in the rebuild. This would definitely help me when it comes time for me to strip, recondition, and rebuild my 1100s.

However, I could contribute by offering to purchase the bent, titled frame for a reasonable sum, or in trade for a weathered vetter fairing and hard bags.

Well, I do like a cold one now and then.

It was a really good weekend and alot of fun tearing down these bikes. Really looking forward to the rest of the assembly and getting it running. There is alot that I had not had the opportunity to take apart yet on mine (like the front end and swingarm), so this has been a great learning experience.

It is also great to be able to help a friend out.

Yeah, it is definitely the "John Wayne" of motorcycles.

As for riding, I am really looking forward to it. I am just trying to figure out where to haul the walker on the scoot.

It looks like your old sissy bar and luggage rack have been suitably raised and customized into a good place to mount a walker. Put on a couple of hose clamps, some angle brackets and bungee cords and voila! Instant walker mount with a built-in recliner!

Not trying to blow you off, Brian, but that frame isn't ours to sell or trade. You might send a PM to Ivan though.

Just curious though... why would you want a bent frame? If wanting to swap VIN badges... I don't wanna know.. lol.

As for the rear tire... yeah it's still mounted up on a rim, but that was left at Ivan's some 3 1/2 hrs away. You bet it would have been mounted as a backup, but a new one is being ordered. (Non-whitewall...)

I can picture the 3 of you arguing over what tire to get while doing keg stands! You know with Harry and his Shinkos, Tod and his Elite 3 and Russ with his Metzelers, I'm sure it was a big drunken brawl! Did Harry get in a few drunk texts in during the beating???

bent frame

Hi guys,
if it was closer, I'd be there but the 2,500 mile round trip is a deal breaker so all I can do from here is to cheer on the unwrecking crew.
Thing is, Ivan will be able to ride long before he will be able to keep a heavy solo upright as it stops & starts. And although I only know the man through this site, I'm pretty sure he'll attempt to ride the moment he can hobble out to where the bike is and fritz up his half-healed bones thereby.
Now the photos of that pile of parts looks like there's enough to build two bikes and how bent is that frame anyway? If it's straight enough that the motor will go back in you could use it to build Ivan a sidecar rig to tide him over until he's fit to ride solo again. Rigs don't care about having a straight frame as they don't lean over and they handle funny anyway. And while a solo is hard for a partially healed rider to cope with, a rig, you just gotta sit on it. May as well be an armchair. Besides, rigs are addictive. "Once you've added a track you'll hate to go back"

I have been worried about that too Fred. My left side is healing up quite well, since the fracture was not clear through the bone, and everything stayed exactly in place. The right side is a different story, the socket split and a piece was fully split away. It only moved a fraction of an inch, so the doctor said it will be ok, but take much longer to heal, and will probably still have a catch in it for years to come. I guess I will just have to get use to jinking right near the end of a stop so the bike tips left on to my good foot.

I am not too thrilled about breaking things up again, since the only thing that really hurts me is pain. I will probably take it a lot easier than before, I doubt there are anymore 1500 mile weekends in my future for a while, and Ironbutt is not gonna happen this year anyway.

Should we mount a side stand on the right side as well. Would make it easier to kick your left leg up and over. Might look a little weird in the parking lot though.

Just use the second bike and build a trike! Low and comfortable. Plenty of room for a walker or cane. Ivan will be able to rip up the Talimena trail in October. A lazyboy on wheels with plenty of power to boot.
