          heres a link
          http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20687

If you buy the polishing rougues and assorted pads
to fit a dremel/drill, and good quality paint stripper
it makes life all the easier.

            My polishing effort

I did this on my Dad's bench grinder fitted with a polishing pad and three grades of rouge.

            Before

            After

Took about 20 minutes. I have a dremel tool but I can't imagine where I'd even begin to get results like you Pete.

For the dullards, the polished bit is the handlebar clamp.

              sounds good

After further inspection only the side covers and valve cover have much corrosion , the engine and jugs look to be in fair shape. Any way just got finished dumping the oil and putting some mmo in the cylinders also while the oil plug was out and filter cup I spun the motor with the kick start to pump everything out, next I need to figure out where the drain plug for the middle drive is? Where is my darn manual! Next thing is sorting out a set of carbs , the set that came on it are friggin rusted shut. Also looks like the petcock seem to be gummed up, I need to get the tank cleaned and maybe some seafoam will help with that, thankfully no visable rust in the tank but the whole thing stinks of turpentine

                back to work

My 9 days of vacation are done and I have to work today but I don't go in till 3 tomorrow so I should be able to wrench for a little bit , I guess ill drain the middle and final drives and dump the gas tank and pull the petcocks , are the seals reusable for those or do they have to be replaced , I am going to make a shopping list!

                  Hey Garth,

I just pulled my petcocks and reused the seals with no problems. But my bike was not as mistreated as yours.

                      middle gear drive drain plug

IIRC it should be underneath the engine towards the back edge...you'll see a drain bolt...HTH

                            drained

so all fluids are drained and I am just waiting on parts to get this one fired up(I hope) contemplating the brakes and hoping the rebuild kits for my mc arrive soon ,as well as newer carbs I still have to install the new carb boots and fuel ,vacuum lines and a battery and oh yeah oil. and we'll see if she fires!
