I just met a guy here in NH who is going to work in my XS1100SH and SG. He has a '79 XS1100S that is all bored out and turbo charged but I don't remember what the horsepower is.

Wish I could get the photo he sent to transfer to a file I can post but it shows the rear and he has a fat drag tire on the back.

Here's another view of his bike.

He asked if I wanted my bikes to have more horsepower but I told him I ride like an old man and am perfectly happy with the power my bikes have.

            power

I read an article in cycleworld about how most people crash on bikes that are 600cc or less and that people who have liter + bikes tend to respect the power a little more. A good running xs has loads of juice , how much more do you need?

That's my opinion as well. I love the 1100!

My philosophy: Wherever I am going, it's going to still be there when I get there.

With a bike as heavy as this and as much hp you can run out of black top and into trouble asap

I ran speedboats for L/E in south Florida. Boats including a 38' Cigarette with twin 575's and a 47' Fountain with triple Merc 500 cruisers. We use to have a saying, "Only approach a dock as fast as you care to hit it."

I guess if I converted that to a motorcycle, it would go something like this..."Only go as fast as you care to skid down the pavement on your back or stomach."

There are a couple of good threads on polish ...

ING. Not the sausage !! Rob, 79XS11SF, detailed how he did it ... he has a build blog somewhere. He used brass wheels and all sorts of stuff, not to mention time and elbow grease to get 'er done. I like S100 for cleaning it off. the engine covers can all be removed and buffed on a wheel. See me

                          Not more top end

The 750 mod won't give you more top end unless you have something like the 1196 cc mod too. I've found that I can get about 130 mph with the 750 mod and if I want to go faster I need to shift down to 4th gear which is almost exactly what the gear ratio is without the mod in 5th gear. Basically, the 750 mod takes about 500 rpm less for the same speed in 5th gear.

                              Polishing

I used a multi-speed Dremel tool to do the rims and hard to get to areas and a Mini Die Grinder with pads from www.eastwood.com . I use jewlers rouge as my polishing compound. For touch up and maintenance, I use semi-chome polishing compound. Don't forget to wear gloves, eye protection and a particle mask!!!

                                I guess I'll need a stripper

Paint stripper that is and some more masking tape to get that clear off, if the exhaust is good enough I am going to jet hot them, pricey but they sure look nice, they quoted me 350 + 50 to take off the chrome
