Well as you all know the 1100 crowd is a little Special...latexeses came to the Amtrak train station on a saturday evening and picked us up and drove us to the motel. We were a bit road weary after 60 hours on the train with just a 25 minute break in Chicago.
I hope some day I might help a fellow XS1100 rider while on the road as latexeses did for us...
                Thank you Rodger..

My wife and I want to make a trip very similar to yours in the future. It's nice to have a network of people out there who are willing to lend a hand to a fellow XSer who wanders far from home.

From now on when I travel I'm going to make a note of the nearest members along the way just in case of trouble, or just to say hi.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.

You do meet a lot of people when traveling by train. The guy I was supposed to meet in Denver kept calling my home phone instead of my cell and I didn't have his number. My buddy in Reno over slept at the motel. But the guy in Fargo ND came out to the train at 3:00am on a saturday morning to hand me a package and shake my hand and I was off.

The CA railroad Museum was cool, they the last cab forward steam engine and it is a big one..I still have to download most of my pictures.

I just checked on to ask you what you thought of that bad boy. Sure would be something if they had one of those they could get back on the road..
I forgot to tell you something the other day. When I left after dinner and was just out of Sac and on 5 south I punched up the the radio and "Born To Be Wild" was blastin away. Good timing, I thought....

Those are great photos considering the light, or lack of light, in that hall where that monster is stored.
In 91 I was invited to see the decomissioning of the battleship Missouri. I took a ton of photos from any place they would let me stand. They will let you all over the ship now compared to that day.
Anyway I was showing the pictures to my father who was a retired industrial engineer for General Mills. He got about half way through the album where there were photos of the superstructure and dropped it in his lap and looked up and said..."How would you like to grab a pencil and paper and figure this thing out?" Meaning of course design the thing and make it run.
That thought goes through my head whenever I see something like that engine. Like a 3/4 million ton wrist watch.
I know it is far from complicated but what it lacks in complexity it makes up with massive.
On the way home from Sac. I just opened up the windows and cranked it up!!

Bill, those are some impressive pics. I'm not really a train guy but that is some cool stuff, I do, however, like anything that makes massive power. again, stellar pics, have a nice day and ride safe.

Should have said 1/2 million POUNDS.. not 3/4 million tons. That would be a big one.
